I bought the Dark Hero VIII motherboard last month for $419 at B&H.

Seems everything indicates that this year 2021 such purchases will cost us a lot more.

It really looks like hypocrisy how hard it was to give Z490 its own subforum -- or to at least put a 'Z490' in this subforum's title when the boards were out -- and how Z590 got its whole subforum even before Z590 mobos are really available. Also, the subforum still doesn't mention XII Maximus. It really feels like Z490 was a temporary hop for Asus, and the joke is on us.

Now, I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt. Undeserved.

Caretakers, any explanation / apology?

lol i keep jumping from one "abandoned early" platform to another x299->z490 oh well at least i didn't have to delid my cpu this time haha

The future of Z590 is uncertain. It is a turning point when the risk of getting a new PC is high, and the best value is in waiting for the gen after this one. At the same time, hardware prices are seeing absurd inflation. There is a history piece on the Tulip Mania; today, those things are crazy cheap, but back then people were paying for one piece what some others couldn't earn in years.

So, the current situation does look a bit like a start of a Hardware Mania. The smartest thing is to let it all wash down the drain until the prices get reasonable again.

yea those prices in USD then converted to CAD$ then add the usual +10% "Canada tax" and it gets pretty pricey, altho i think we are still pretty lucky here in north america compared to some places in the world, pc parts pricing wise. Just glad i got my rtx 3080 at all let alone before this recent price hike.

I dropped the 3080 train, mostly due to the 10 GB VRAM thing. I wait for 3080 Ti, to decide between that and a 3090. Of course, I will have to take the monetary hit.

Dunno how much longer will my GTX 1080 Ti tolerate me. I OC it to its limit, and it sees a lot of work.

Looks like Z590 might be end of the road for LGA1200.

In September 2021 Intel will launch it's 600 series chipsets for LGA1700 based motherboards. This will be a major shift for the Intel platform, with DDR5 memory support and PCI Gen5. The new 10nm Alder Lake Core i9-12900K will be 16 (8+8) core / 24 threads, 8 big cores and 8 small cores, as the small cores do not support hyperthreading.

So going to be an interesting next few months with folks preordering the Z590 motherboards which are scheduled to ship in February, the Rocket-Lake 11th Gen processor series not expected to launch until March,.. and than in September Intel will launch it's 12th Gen chipsets for new LGA1700 based motherboards.

that's correct alder lake is a whole new architecture/processing fabrication. Best to hold out for the end of the year and splash big on a new system and ddr5.

I'll be skipping Intel Z590 platform.
