Thinking that rocket lake is coming next year, is M12E actually PCIe 4.0 compatible? Asus has remained vague on that one, and officially all maximus xii boards are PCIe 3.0. I found a news article with an illustration [1]:

Yes. From reviews looks like Asus equip only Extreme with necessary hardware. But let's be honest average consumer dont need PCIe GEN4.

Yes, good point. I am telling myself that by the time I absolutley _need_ PCIe gen4, I'll also be needing DDR5.

yea considering the new GPUs dont lose much performance on gen3 (max 5% under certain games), load times are slightly better (maybe 1sec?) there's no point to spend what 600$+ for a rocket lake cpu, maybe a new mobo and 300$ for a SN850 1tb. that's my opinion anyway, that might change when DirectStorage/RTX IO becomes a thing but without any benchmarks for those its all speculation.

Yeah, shame about other models. Looking at the competition (per the article), it is a missed opportunity.
I suppose one won't gain much from PCIe 4.0 vs. PCIe 3.0. Personally, I am still very excited about it.

Did someone get to test the M12E's new 1002 Beta BIOS from Nov 27, 2020? It is bad timing for me to play with it.
