Z790-A audio out: popping sounds and clicks on both Linux and Windows

Dear Asus owners/users,

I've got "ROG STRIX Z790-A GAMING WIFI II" and just recently some weird audio issue started happening: when I play any audio via rear audio out (jack) I hear a popping sound or clicks (don't even know how to call it) on both systems: linux and windows (linux is worse). Even when my machine starts and just shows the bios info I can hear speakers (or headphones , whatever is connected to jack) clicks couple times, which means this is clearly not drivers issue of any sort.

Here is a short video with those clicks: https://youtube.com/shorts/SQDbIltGHQk?feature=share

and of course the same is happening through both my speakers or my head phones.

I installed the most recent BIOS version. I disconnected all front panel cables from motherboard (both usbs and audio) and I even disconnected my water pump usb, and then wifi antenna too. Nothing solves the problem. I'm sure couple weeks ago it wasn't happening.

USB connected jabra headset seems to work just fine in both OS-es and BT audio of course is fine. But I need jack audio out 🙂 I have a good old school speakers and headphones I want to keep using.

It looks like a hardware issue (like busted cap or something) but before I send it to Asus for repair I just wanted to check with you guys if anyone had similar issue and maybe solved it ?

Thank you

I figured it out 🙂 it was one of the KVM switches I use to switch between computers ! The cheap one, it just  shorted I guess and through the DisplayPort cable was meddling with my audio output  (and probably with entire system of mine)... how crazy it is. Don't buy cheap KVM switches.

If you're experiencing popping sounds and clicks with the audio output on your Z790-A motherboard in both Linux and Windows, it could be due to driver issues, incorrect audio settings, or hardware interference. Make sure all drivers are up to date and try adjusting the buffer size or audio latency in your system settings. For those handling company formation in Dubai, having a stable, well-functioning setup is important, as smooth communication and clear audio are essential for professional meetings and virtual consultations.
