Hello, I am building a new gaming PC. Intel i7 3770k , Asus maximus 5 formula, 16 gigs g skill trident x 2666, 7970 matrix gpu, thermaltake grand 1200 psu, Samsung 840 pro ssd. I am ready for the is but can't decide between windows 7 and 8. I will be using an eyefinity setup so I like the multiple monitor support offered by 8 however I have read that my thunder fx amp that came with my board is not supported. Also some drivers are not working good yet. Any suggestions.

Thank you chino. Any particular reason or just personal preference.

Pretty bad personal experience from installing W8 on multiple machines. Neither of them went well LOL. And I read an article at Tom's Hardware not so long ago comparing the performance in games between W7 & W8. Needless to say that there wasn't a big difference.

Thanks, I appreciate the advice

I'm the opposite. I have Windows 8 on both my G74SX ROG laptop, and my custom desktop build. Both run without a hitch, and I haven't had any issues (other than having to use some of the G75 utilities to get some laptop functionality back on my laptop). No problems gaming, and no installation issues.

Windows 8 definitely takes some time to get used to (lack of a start button w/o mods, etc) but it grew on me. My wife wanted Metro and I needed a reason to wipe the computer anyways as it was due for a reload; so I compromised and went with Win8 and honestly it grew on me and I dig it. Metro is nice to keep track/organization of my constantly used apps, and it performs solid for me in gaming, photoshop, some minor video editing, and so forth.

That is alot of the same things I will be doing. I am a heavy gamer, and I think I would like the metro games as a change of pace from the hardcore. I use Photoshop cs6 and I want to dabble in some minor video and sound editing. I will be running eyefinity so I like that 8 has multiple monitor functions.

Windows 7 all the way. I upgraded to windows 8. It looks really nice and was a bit snappier but, I just coulnt take the bad.

I downloaded an app from stardock called home 8 or something like that. It puts the regular start menu back in windows 8. I even use this app on my Samsun 700t tablet with windows 8. The main deal breaker with window s8 was overclocking. On failed attempts at overclocking and rebooting some windows repair crap starts up and takes forever to get to the boot screen. This can make an overclock take even longer.

Good to know as I intend to do some overclocking. Thanks for the reply

windows 7, no point to run out and buy a new operating system the same year it came out. If you really want the tablet windows 8 wait for a service pack.
