Windows 11 : error ASIO.sys

Hello.
I have an ASUS GL12CP.

I migrated from Windows 10 family to Windows 11 Pro. I have an error message at startup with ASIO.sys. It seems that there is no version compatible with Win11. What ASUS software uses this driver and how do I uninstall it? The ASUS utilities work correctly despite this. There should be no problem removing the application that uses this driver since it is not useful to me a priori. Would you agree to help me solve this bug?
Thank you very much.

Hi @MGCoteau when it comes to Windows 11, it is best to do a fresh clean installation. Any reason, why you would not like to give that a try?

Good morning. Obviously it will be cleaner when I install win11 from the beginning. But in the meantime I would like to eliminate this boot error. These software do not appear in my installed applications. How to dislodge them? THANKS.

yes you can remove BUT you will have no support for windows 11 drivers on that special program.  That is the can control on the armory crate /ai suite

there is no support for that machine assuming is the pc with 8th gen cpu. is not the end you can still use the pc and farm the drivers on the asus forums. but the app will have NO support at all and will not support will be given sadly

The best chance is to to add the last known bios and sorry for my words.... for the best.  good luck

that file is related to: armory crate, aisuite and gputweak3 is not a driver, is a software component.

Hi @MGCoteau solving these types of errors could take a while so as long as you are patient, I will do my best to help you to the best of my abilities.

Please see https://rog-forum.asus.com/t5/asus-software/windows-11-core-isolation-and-asio-sys/td-p/888889 thread with the same issue. The file seems to be connected to ASUS PC Probe and the two solutions mentioned in this post are:

  1. Disable Windows Core Isolation (Memory Integrity)
  2. Move this file from the C:\Windows\SysWOW64\drivers folder to some other folder to keep it around in case you need it so that you can put the file back to its original location.

I hope this information helps you resolve your issue. Good luck!

Good evening. Thank you everyone for your advice.
I tried several things. I haven't found anything from ASUS to solve my problem. I tried to install a win11 on a blank disk from a Microsoft version. Operation is almost correct. There are still some driver errors in the device manager. By loading an Intel application we can replace the generic Microsoft drivers which were causing problems. I hesitated to go back to win10 with the original CDs. I believe switching to win11 from a blank disk is a more satisfactory solution that seems to work. Thanks again everyone.

The ASIO.sys error you’re seeing is likely related to ASUS software or drivers, typically used for audio or system monitoring functions. It's possible that an older version of an ASUS utility, such as AI Suite or Sonic Studio, is causing the issue, as these often rely on drivers that may not be fully compatible with Windows 11.

Update Drivers: If you want to keep the ASUS utilities, check the ASUS website for Windows 11-compatible versions. They might have updated versions that solve the ASIO.sys issue.

Hope this helps, and feel free to reach out if you need further assistance!

Be aware; My situation is different but this solution may help you.

Updated Win 11 Pro from 23H2 to 24H2. Saw this problem; Can't load AsIO.sys. It belongs in my case to an ASUS suite. It's located at C:\Windows\SysWOW64\drivers. AsIO.sys. Looking at the properties; it's sha1 signature dates from ‎Wednesday ‎22 ‎august ‎2012 11:56:16. I suspect that Windows Security - Core Isolation finds this signature to old and therefor don't like this driver.

To enable loading that driver; Windows Security - Device Security - Core Isolation details - Go to the bottom and at "Microsoft Vulnerable  Driver Blocklist" Turn this off.

It's not a nice solution but it solved my issue.
As far I can guess it (seen other problems with this driver) ASUS is not gonna fix this issue. Maybe if there was a way to give this signature a 2024 date instead the one from 2012.  (12 year old!! If you try to use a newer suite i bet it will contain a signature from 2012 again)

An other issue is that it is based on SHA-1. That encryption method is outdated. Should me at least SHA-2 or higher. (SHA256) Microsoft blocks anything with SHA-1. (Turning off that MS blocking list is sufficient)
