Who wants to help me build a Media Server?

I have built many many computers over the years, but I have never built a Home Media Server. Well its time I get with the times.
I have a case that I've been sitting on for a long time and every time I look at it I say I'll get to it...Guess I'll get to it now.

Case: SilverStone SST-LC13B-E (black).
I thought it would be pretty cool to come here and see who wants to help put one together. I know my family and I will be the only ones to enjoy the outcome of this project, but at least you can say I helped that old dude build that. So if you have ideas, thoughts or what ever else post them up. Oh yeah and I have a OEM copy of Windows Home Server 2011, not sure thats the best choice but it was free.

Lets have a bit of fun shall we...:)

Im thinking Intel also.

I like the board and ram you put up there. PSU seems like maybe a bit much for power?
CPU I was thinking maybe Intel Core i5-2405S, but you pick is good too. Cooler is no big deal plenty to pick from out there.
Storage you picked is not bad at all either. It will be in box and one of my existing NAS servers.
Thinking I would use a HighPoint RocketRaid 2720SGL Raid controller.

why raid on a boox like that? i see no point for it.
a friend runs 1 ssd on his box and he runs linux, taked a couple of sec to load.
you will only save max 2 sec on boot if you run raid or enny thing like that., and theres enough sata ports on the mobo it self.
well was the only PSU i could find at the time which was modular ( to prevent a total cable mess ).

Remember Im working with Windows Home Server 2011. Guess I don't have to. However this is a Microsoft network and it would simplify things much more sticking with it. Besides I really don't want to put the required work in to integrate linux. As far as the raid goes WHS limits my hdd space and options "no drive extender" pooling and such. In fact Im going to switch up the controllers and go with a LSI 9240 RAID. Your spot on with the PSU and cable management, I just thought the 750 was a bit much. I do like it though.

Hey what do you think of the P8H77-M PRO or P8H77-I mother boards? Or an i7-2600S on a P8H67-I DELUXE?

the P8H77-M PRO is uATX board ( if it fits in your case ).
but it have 6 audio jack ports compare to the other 2 that have only 3.
well i did not sugest to run linux, just mentioned that he does.
and it will be close the same on the win too.
he mentioned to me that he only saved ~2 sec on boot when runing 2 ssd in raid on W7 compare to one ( on his gaming pc ).

Right I got ya. The raid solution is not for speed, it's for data protection. No raid on the OS drive only data. So if one fails Im still good.
