I've been trying to use a new WD Black SN750 M.2 SSD as a boot drive on my Asus Z97 Pro motherboard, but I'm getting random freezes after booting from the SSD. One sure way to freeze/crash the system is to try to install any AMD drivers for my Radeon R9 390 Series GPU.
As I recall, I had a LOT of trouble finding an AMD driver that would install on the machine when I moved from Win 8.1 to Win 10 a couple of years ago so maybe AMD just makes crappy software (there are lots of Google responses for "amd drivers freezing windows 10"), but that doesn't explain the random freezes when I'm not trying to install the GPU driver unless the WD SN750 is somehow in conflict with the AMD R9 390 GPU?
Are there any known issues that might apply here (specs below)? I can return the WD SN750 M.2 drive, but don't know if I should try another one, or another brand (Maybe Samsung Evo?), or just give up on running this older mobo from the M.2 slot.
I'd really appreciate any insights you folks might have.
