Upgrade from Crosshair IV Formula to ...?

Hi.
At the moment my specs are:
Crosshair IV Formula
FX-8120 8c
XFX Radeon 7950
16Gb DDR3
TopPower 650w
1x WD 3TB
2x WD 1TB
1x WD 500GB
BluRay writer

I have knowledge of the compatibility issues between my mobo and AM3+ CPUs.
My PC is working fine but there are games like Prototype 2 and Borderlands 2 that crash with a BSoD or just reboot the PC.
I saw somewhere that it can be fixed with a BIOS update; but instead, maybe it's time to buy a fully compatible mobo for my CPU that at the same time supports those games.
So, my question is... what mobo should i buy?

Thanks in advance for your time.

Welcome to the ROG boards, deathx91. Well, you can get the newer version of the Crosshair. The Crosshair V formula is a nice gaming board. Or if your budget permits it and you want to go all out, the Crosshair V Formula-Z.

I was doing some research right now, and i was taking a look to the Crosshair V Formula-Z and the Maximus V Formula/ThunderFX.
I'm not planing to OC in a near future, and probably i will not be using water cooling system. So, do you think my best choice is the Formula-Z?
My budget is not a problem at the moment.

and no you dont have to OC to buy those cards, thats all up to you and if you want or not.
its more a quality board.
CVF-Z is more aimed for the FX and the next CPU then what the CVF is.
the onboard sound is more then enough for you, ppl having problem whit the thunderfx ( not all but there are those who have ).
how old is that PSU of yours??

All the components of my PC have less than 6 months. And yes, i think onboard sound is enough as i'm using the digital output of my current onboard atm.

Then you would love the SupremeFX III that's on the CHVF-Z

I will be ordering the Formula-Z today so it gets home tomorrow.
Thanks you very much for all your suggestions.

What BIOS are you running on the C5F? Have you tried updating?

Your mobo was built for AM3+. It was designed before FX but the later BIOS updates should sort that out without issue. I would suggest your issue is your PSU as it's not particularly high quality: what code does the BSOD give? Can you try another?
