Upgrade Assistance Inquiry

I have a 5 yr old homebuilt PC that is in need of motherboard, CPU and GPU upgrade. PC is for gaming/streaming. Budget is not an issue.

I will be replacing an I 7-Haswell E, an Asrock x99 Extreme 6 v.2 and EVGA GeForce 1070 Ti Videocard. 16 GB ram 2333(I think)

I will be keeping a Corsair 850W P/S; H110i cooler in a 760T Corsair tower. I have an Acer 34 Predator Ultrawidescreen that I will be running @1440p.

I've pretty much decided on I7 9700k altho' SO is encourgaging an I9 9900K. My dilemma is the motherboard selection I've looked at a ton of builds on partspicker and one of the favorites is Asus Prime Z390A or the Asus Tuf Z390-Plus Gaming. I would also like to add 32 GB Corsair Dominator DDR4 -3200 memory. I donot need Wi-Fi on the board. The other dilemma is the videocard. I think the cost of any 2080Ti is outrageous altho' cost is not a factor. Perhaps a 2080 Super will suit me just fine. We stream a lot of stuff via netflix, etc., and the games I play are mostly CRPG's. like The Witcher, RDR2 with the exception being The Division 2.

In that we are stuck in the house because of the COVID-19, now would be a good time to mess with the pc's. Assistance particularly with the motherboard would be appreciated. Thanks

Hello,

Personally, I would consider an AM4 build given you won't be upgrading again for a few platform cycles. 3900X and a Strix 570-E for example. For longevity, I would take the extra cores over the small IPC improvements.

The thing is....I would prefer a Z390 setup which is the reason for my inquiry about LGA1151 boards, so can you offer a suggestion for my desired config? Thanks and appreciate the help.

Hi,

If you want to stay on an Intel+NVIDIA platform and according to your preferences and the products you keep :

Now (but it will be the last Intel products on this socket) :

CPU : Intel Core i7 9700K with Corsair H110i watercooling
GPU : NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER Founders Edition
MB : ASUS PRIME Z390-A (Socket 1151)
RAM : Corsair Dominator Platinum DDR4 3200MHz 32Go (2 x 16Go)
PSU : Corsair 850W
Case : Corsair 760T
Monitor : Acer Predator X34 (34 inch / 3440 x 1440 / 100 Hz)

If you wait a little (Q2 2020 - it will be the first Intel products on this socket) :

CPU : Intel Core i7 10700K with Corsair H110i watercooling
GPU : NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER Founders Edition
MB : ASUS PRIME Z490-A (Socket 1200)
RAM : Corsair Dominator Platinum DDR4 3200MHz 32Go (2 x 16Go)
PSU : Corsair 850W
Case : Corsair 760T
Monitor : Acer Predator X34 (34 inch / 3440 x 1440 / 100 Hz)

If you wait a little longer (Q3 2020 - it will be the first NVIDIA GPU products on 7nm) :

CPU : Intel Core i7 10700K with Corsair H110i watercooling
GPU : NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Founders Edition
MB : ASUS PRIME Z490-A (Socket 1200)
RAM : Corsair Dominator Platinum DDR4 3200MHz 32Go (2 x 16Go)
PSU : Corsair 850W
Case : Corsair 760T
Monitor : Acer Predator X34 (34 inch / 3440 x 1440 / 100 Hz)

Ah yes, the thing :D. Hampering purchasing decisions the world over.

Not that it's sane to offer recommendations on unreleased products, but in that instance, I would suggest waiting for Intel's launch and scope offerings there since 390 is soon to become EOL.

2080 Super seems like the right choice if the RRP on the 2080Ti is out of your comfort zone.

Thank you both so much. I didn't realize all the changes about to take place in hardware. I guess now is not the time to replace my old stuff with other EOL stuff is it. Appreciate the info.
