Time for the big move to Intel.

Hi all.

The time has come for me to leave my FX8350 and 990FX Sabertooth and do the old `heave ho` to Intel.

I have pretty much set my goals on the I7 4770K.

Motherboard is where I need a bit of help.

Mainly a GAMING RIG, so Gamers, chime in.

My current rig is in my sig.

Thanks.

Hero will do you good.

Newer GPU would also be a good idea.

Just a suggestion, 4770ks are spotty, if you browse these threads you can see just how much, if you can wait a bit the new CPUs are going to start rolling out, or at least the replacement CPUs for the current chip set series

As far as board if you were going 4770k or even waiting to get its replacement I'd personally have to say either a Formula ( or any with supremefx if that's what your into) or an Extreme, if your going smaller type build then hero, impact or gene but again size and components are what else will help you decide or at least narrow it down

Normally I'd just say formula but since there are limitations that effect newer things such as pci e ssds depending on what ur build includes would help you decide

As I said in limitations, the formula has 16 lanes which means using nvidia cards in 2 way SLI will pretty much make all other expansion slots unusable, from what I've read the physical x1 slots arnt effected but I saw one user state Ina thread that they actually where

This means with the formula something like 2 way SLI and a pcie ssd or even the Asus raidr would be a no go, not enough lanes
Even 2 way SLI and a sound card seems to work sometimes lol seen multiple threads saying it works and multiple saying it doesn't lol

If the case is your going for a setup like I mentioned above or even if your not but would like to leave the room to maybe grow a bit down the road an extreme would be better, the other lanes supported from plx chip set would allow for multi SLI with a sound card or pcie ssd

Hero is the exact same thing as the formula, except for the armor and the formula supposedly has a better bios.

Noooooooo noo noonooooooo

How long can you wait? There's the first wave of Z97 boards launching shortly with more announced at Computex.

Was actually thinking that as soon as I hit post, then I saw urs and was like yup lol

Also in my personal opinion the armor does look cool and makes the board look super super clean but I personally like the metal backplate part way more then the front plastic parts lol and thankfully I haven't had to endure the process of trying to change the bios battery lol........yet

Thanks,

I will also be going down the GTX780 SLI at some point too.

Getting a custom loop for CPU only.

Also want to keep my sound card.

soundcard wont fit in the formula if you do SLI.
the top pcie 1x/4x will be blocked by the armour.
if it will fir in other slots if SLI i can not say for shure.
that is if the soundcard is a 1x/4x slot card.

So yeah.

kkn is right, so go for the Hero.

If you need help, I could very easily quote you a custom loop.
