The Best PC Build Teacher for Noobs

Hardliner

Carey Holzman is THE BEST teacher (a virtual 'Rosetta Stone') for people just beginning to get into building their own rigs. He does not do water cooling builds, but that is okay for noobs because they need to learn the nuts and bolts of the operation first anyway. In his videos, Carey takes learners though each step in great detail with wonderful closeups--when learning from Carey, there are no misunderstandings.

Also, if you are a veteran builder, you probably will like watching this guy build like master chefs still like to watch cooking shows:

No agenda...no....just posting up what I thought might be useful...

You and anyone else is free to turn to whomever they chose for advice.

I will say, that having watched Carey I have the same concerns Chino mentioned and maybe a bit of studying to get what JJ is saying and then following his advice would lead to a happier build. He asks you, in effect, to do a bit of reading...to put in your part..to come at this with a learning attitude not a spoonfed one...that is the trade for his help.

Carey says in part 2 that people who recommend a bare-bones, on the box test build are "not confident in their skills"...purrrlease...I'm not even going to go there...

The RAM thing is plain bad...not very good for a "noob" to take away the mixing kits idea...

For learning how to custom water cool, I like watching this guy, too--he actually takes GPU's and such apart and shows you how to water block them:

Insalling a gpu waterblock isn't difficult, you just have to handle them carefully and have a little patience. If you can install the monoblock on your motherboard you can install a gpu waterblock.

Notice he does the spread method too.

Yes, his 'Monsta' video was where I learned that the 2011 v-3 die is so big that it is probably better to spread the paste on it. Smaller dies may be okay with the pea-sized or rice-grain-sized method, but the 2011 v-3 likely cannot get completely covered that way.

While watching this vid, I kept staring at my old Gateway with its micro-ATX MOBO and WIndows Vista OS thinking I might upgrade it:

Then I decided that I would only do it if someone in my family or a friend needed an okay PC and they were willing to spend a couple hundred bucks on it (it would need a new MOBO with a 16-laned PCIe slot) so I could make it worth 3-4 times as much after I worked on it.

I find that the time spent watching these video's is better spent building a PC and get on with what I'm going to do on it, gaming, benching, watching video's, harassing ARNE, you know useful stuff

I take my time with builds, thank you, especially since I have to order everything online and wait on it all to be delivered.

Also, LEARNING is ALWAYS 'useful,' thank you again.
