SSD Upgrade Advice: 1x Samsung 850 Pro or 2x Samsung 850 Pro RAID0

Hi guys,

I am planning to upgrade my current boot drive, which is an old Corsair Force GT 120GB SSD on a X79 platform.

What do you think is best?

1) 2x Samsung 850 Pro 256GB in RAID0
2) 1x Samsung 850 Pro 512GB
3) Another suggestion

I would like it to be noticeably faster than my old Force GT and relatively future proof.

I look forward to your reply, thanks.

a raid would be a waste of monney if you ask me TBH. ( my honest opinnion )

if one drive dies you will loose all data on them.
use on on C and one for games, sepperate.

i have 4 ssd's and 2 hdd's.
i use one ssd as boot drive, the rest for game storage.
and the hdd for file storage.

I have 3 separate HDD for storage: 1x 2TB WD Green and 2x 500GB WD Blue.
I do not intend to put important data on the ssd or the raid array.

The boot drive would be for booting faster and loading programs faster.

Even in this case you think I would not benefit from raid?

Have to agree that Raid is risky - the ssd's are pretty fast without raid - saying that Intel 730 ssd's are designed for raid and have great speeds when in raid - if you are going to use raid, just backup your OS. I believe it is far more stable now that a couple of years ago.

Intel 730 ssds in raid0 seem to be very nice.
They are just not so popular than Samsung ssds here.

Intel 730 really have an advantage over Samsung 850 Pro in raid0?

RAID0 is much more stable now than in the past.
But really not worth the risk, cost, and hassle with the advent of high performance SSD's.
Intel i9 10850K@ 5.3GHz
ASUS ROG Strix Z490-E
Corsair H115i Pro XT
G.Skill TridentZ@ 3600MHz CL14 2x16GB
EVGA RTX 3090 Ti FWT3 Ultra
OS: WD Black SN850 1TB NVMe M.2
Storage: WD Blue SN550 2TB NVMe M.2
EVGA SuperNova 1200 P2
ASUS ROG Strix Helios GX601

Even if I don't have m.2 options, just sata3, you think it is better to upgrade to a single ssd?

The single 512GB 850 Pro...

RAID will actually slow boot time and you will notice no difference in most day to day computing..opening programs etc.

Thank you Arne.
I think I will follow your advice.
