This is a new upgrade. I replaced my XFX 5970 with these Sapphire 7970's. I'm watching the temps; at idle the top card gets up to 41°C and under load 57°C. The bottom card stays 5 to 10° lower.
The case is a Coolermaster HAF 932 and it has provisions for a top mounted PSU. If I relocate the PSU, I'll have to find another top fan as the existing one would no longer fit.
An interesting benefit to this upgrade has been faster system booting. With the 5970 it would take a long time for the bios to post.
Those temps are good. Are they sustained load temps? If so they might get slightly better if you move the power supply but i'm not convinced it's worth the hassle.
Definitely remove that PSU from there! let the bottom graphic card to breath... Would you like if somebody would hold one of your nostrils closed? 🙂
One of the reasons why the bottom card is cooler then the upper one is that the heat from the bottom one is sucked in by the upper one... You could use the airduct which came with your case to improve the airflow around your cards... with proper adjustment of the side fan, of course...
I dont think u need to worry, the space is enough,, Just put a spacer between the psu and the gpu, if ur temps get high on the bottom card.. But that had shown by now..
Grott Take a good look at your pic, the Bottom card at the Power Connectors is angled down... If you propped it up with like a Power Jax that might aid in cooling or you can mount like an 80 or 120mm Fan on the floor of the case blowing up into the card to aid in cooling.
Sorry Grott, mistake in identity....It's been a long 2 days....geolll the advice is for you... and yes like Zka17 stated a little more wire mamgement will go a long way for Airflow Management.
Thank You grott, it's a small part of a Desktop Background I'm working on as well as a possible part to the icon set I'm working on.
I am going to relocate the PSU and see what the temps look like. If they stay where they are now, I'll put the PSU back on the bottom.
I was interested in a power jack, but I didn't know if they are good or not. I wont have time to move the PSU until this weekend, so I installed a spaced as suggested.
This HAF case didn't come with any ducting. Now I'm kind of mad. Does anyone have a picture? Maybe I can make it?
Cable management is important, I just don't do much of it until I know how things are going to stay.
