Ryujin II Pump Speed Capped at 1770rpm

Hi, my Ryujin II pump speed is capped at 1770rpm. I can lower the speed and it is reported correctly, but if I put the speed at max in armoury crate, the max it will go to is 1770rpm. Isn't the max supposed to be 2800rpm?

I can certainly set my Ryujin II to 2800 rpm (in fixed RPM mode, or via the smart mode curve) and it reports running at around that speed. It does take a second or two to respond to changes in the AC interface, but behaves as expected.

In normal use, you don't really need full pump speed; half speed will mostly suffice. Full speed is really only necessary if you're running the CPU at max for a sustained period and trying to squeeze the last bit of performance out. It should be capable of running at full speed, of course, so there's something not right about something if it's unable to get there.

@s09931 -- Same here. At 60%, it reports about 1650. At 65% or anywhere above, it reports 1710. The percent/rpm matrix to the right indicates 60% should be 1890 and 100% should be 2800. But I never see anything over 1710 being reported. I re-ran "Auto Tuning" to see if that would have an effect, but still the same.

@Murph_9000 -- Where are you seeing 2800rpm REPORTED in fixed mode? When I switch to Fixed mode, the "Current RPM" reporting disappears. I can certainly set 2800 as the desired speed, but do not see actual speed reported anywhere to verify that when in Fixed mode.

I have the pump rpm in an info page on the Ryujin display, so can see the reported speed there in fixed mode.

Ah, okay... I had looked at displaying pump speed on the display, but only saw the four categories (Temperature, Frequency, Voltage, and Fan Speed) so thought it wasn't available. Checked again just now and found "Pump Speed" listed in the "Fan Speed" category.

Same issue there, however. The reported speed never goes over 1710. If I set "Fixed Mode" and move the pointer to 2800, the Ryujiin-II display shows 1710. If I set "Smart mode" and set the curve so that the "yellow dot" is at the top of the chart, both the "Current Speed" shown above the graph AND the Ryujin-II display both show 1710.

If I set Fixed Mode at 1206, Ryujin-II display shows 1200 (not worried about a 6rpm difference).

If I set the Smart Mode curve to 40% all the way across, the "Current Speed" and Ryujin-II display show 1410 (somewhat close to the matrix, which says 1470 at 40%).

But if set to run at anything above 1710, it shows 1710. So, not sure if the pump isn't running faster than 1710 when commanded, OR if it is running faster but being mis-reported as 1710.

No temperature problems here, but it is odd that the speed (or reporting of it) is being limited to 1710.

Yeah, half speed is more or less sufficient to keep even the 9-series processors under control in normal use. Something isn't working properly though, if you can't get full speed. It's difficult to say whether it's a hardware or software problem.

Yes, there's always a little variation between commanded speed and actual speed with PWM, so 1200 vs. 1206 is normal. I get between about 2750 and 2850 reported at 100%, which is well within normal behaviour. Fans, pumps, etc all do that.

As far as I know, the Ryujiin-II pump is commanded, and the speed read, directly by Armory Crate via the USB connection. So, nothing else (like motherboard or other pump/fan controllers) should be involved for the pump speed.

So it's curious you are getting expected (~2800) speeds, but I and the OP are both seeing ~1750 reported when we command full speed.

I thought about trying a full AC uninstall & reinstall, but everything else is working -- and this is a small issue -- so don't want to risk the oft-problematic AC uninstall and reinstall.

I wonder if we have any AC version differences? I show fully up-to-date on AC:

  • Armory Crate UWP 5.3.4.0
  • Ryujin-II "Asus Framework Service Version 3.1.1.0".
  • Ryujin-II Firmware version 0104.
  • ASUS AIOFan HAL 1.1.50.0 (I think this is for the Ryujin-II "Fan controller", but not sure)

See anything different? Full list of AC services pasted below.

For what it is worth, I found a fairly recent thread on reddit with multiple people reporting the same issue (no solutions though).

Firmware and versions all look the same for hardware we have in common. So, no explanation there. 😞
