ROG Strix B650e-e wi fi help

NandoAoT
Level 9
Hi all,

I build a new AMD5 setup, this is my first AMD setup and I am having issues with this, since day 1 when I put all parts together I have installed the memory modules in the DIM A1 and B1, when I turned the PC on the motherboard displayed code C5 on the Q-code display, so, I checked the modules to see if they are well fit and tried again, same result, so, decided to move the modules to A2 and B2 and the PC turned on without any issue, I set the memory speed to 6000MHz in the BIOS and did not changed anything else. So, I started to noticed some PC freezes, video driver crashing and I deiced to fresh install windows 11 as I was running the PC on my old SSD from my previous setup, the did not happened for a while but it started again. This week I decided to ran memory MemTest86 and for my surprise it showed a lot of errors, so, doing some research I saw people saying to check if there is any bent pins in the socket so yesterday I double checked the socket and I could not see any bent pins (attached images), put all together and tried to test againA1 and B1, same result C5 after turning on, I tried to test the slots individually and same result, so, put back the modules at A2 and B2 and leave it in stock, ran the memtest again and for my surprise I only got 1 error, so, my questions are:

Slots A1 and B1 are only suppose to work with the 4 complete slots? they do not work alone?
Does the motherboard needs the two 8 pins connectors?
There is any way to troubleshoot to know where is the problem? motherboard, processor, memory?
1 error in the memorytest is enough to ask for warranty in the modules?

Here the onedrive link to the pics from the socket and the two memtest reports

Hello NandoAot,

Welcome to the ROG forum.

The correct configuration with two memory modules is slots A2 - B2. (2nd and 4th slots from the cpu)

It sounds like you are experiencing instability, which is not uncommon with high speed ram.

Try raising the VDD and VDDQ voltages to 1.40v.

S.O.C. voltage 1.20v - 1.25v

Give it a try with the voltages above, if it's still unstable, bump up the memory controller voltage to 1.25v.

One 8-pin cpu power cable is sufficient for normal use and mild overclocking, you only need the second 8-pin cpu power cable for extreme overclocking, but it won't hurt to connect it if your psu has it.

Still getting errors after raising the voltages?

Hey Nate, Thank you for the reply, so, about the slots, A1 and B1 are not suppose to work with single module or two?, there is no issue with the motherboard them?

I will try to adjust the voltages at 6000Mhz and I will post the results.

Here are the recommended memory configurations for your motherboard.

How did it go after raising the voltages?

Hey, i did changed the VDD and VDDQ to 1.40 and SOC to 1.20v and ran the memory test for 5 hours and got no errors, I will now test the games to see if there is any weird crash or freezes. about the slots, my only concern is A1 and B1 may be defective but looks like the only way to test is to use 4 memory modules and I do not have 4 modules to test.

Thank you so much for your help on this, I will update the topic if I do have any other issue related to this!

You're welcome and great to hear.

DDR5 memory in general has trouble with four sticks of memory, especially at higher speeds. And with four sticks, you'll likely have to settle for a much lower speed.

So, if all is working well with the recommended A2-B2 configuration and a bump in voltages, I wouldn't be too concerned.

Give us an update anytime, you can let us know what games you're playing and if they're stable.

Played MW 2 for around 3 hours, no crash, no freezes, all seems to be stable now.

Thanks again!

Hi Nate I was reading about issues here in the Asus forum, and one doubt came to my mind, do you know the details about the new bios update? Now it says High density ddr 5 ram compatibility, what does it mean?

My guess is that the motherboard does support 24, 48GB of ram, I have not tested to switch the modules between the slots to see if it does changed anything, maybe I will do it...
