ROG Maximus Z790 Extreme Temperature sensors locations?

I have a new ASUS ROG Maximus Z790 Extreme build and I am not overclocking (all defaults) but I only have a few fans installed as the CPU and VGU has massive water coolers with stand-alone fans.  I'm looking for  Temperature sensor #3 and #5 as both keep spiking from around 19C to as high as 126C randomly.  I haven't installed any sensor probe cables.  I can't help but think the spikes are erroneous.  Using a Laser temp probe scanning the motherboard randomly I'm seeing only temps just above room temp.

Try HWINFO, much prefer this tool. I wouldn’t concern yourself with that reading, it’s not picking up any valid data.

Hello just touching base again.  I would love to identify Temp sensor #3 and #5 if anyone has any clue where those sensors might be on my motherboard.  Any help is appreciated.  They continue to report bogus temp spikes.  At least I think they're bogus.  The temp randomly jumps between 17C and as high as 126C!  I would think that could fatigue the Motherboard pretty quickly if they're real.  More importantly I'd like to try to address them if they're real.

Hi, without looking into it, what software are we speaking about? Have you tried asking the author as to what they pertain to?

Hi Silent_Scone, hey thanks for replying.  I did contact the author of Open Hardware Monitor, which is a Free GitHub tool (and pretty sweet!).  I haven't heard from them yet, but as this is a free tool I doubt I'll hear from them directly.  I've also posted in the Github issues forum a week ago but so far nothing.  Maybe if I rephrase my question it would make more sense.  The Hardware monitor detects temp sensors among other things on the motherboard.  Something the software detected as Temp #3 and Temp #5 is reporting between as low as 17C and as high as 126C.  It could be a false reading.  And probably is.  But, I'm trying to find out.  So, the Asus manual for my ASUS ROG MAXIMUS Z790 EXTREME doesn't actually list where all of the temp sensors are.  I know there are 3 for sure.  But I'd like a more concrete answer if possible.  Here's my question, how can I get a schematic for where all of the temp sensors are located on the motherboard?  Thanks a bunch.

Hey Silent_Scone, thanks a ton.  I've never seen HWINFO before.  I'm playing with it now.  Its probably a bit information overload but I think its validating what you're saying involving these bogus thermal readings.

There is a new to me sensor called "Core Distance to TjMAX" that I'm curious if you understand.  The average temps are 67C, much higher than the other sensors.  I'm fairly certain my CPU isn't shopping trendy second hand clothing (ha ha) so I'm really not sure what that sensor means.  I've got massive water cooling on the CPU and VGU, of which its just above room temps at full load.  So I'm mostly monitoring for where the motherboard may be otherwise stressed.  I am not overlocking yet.  So everything is default settings, save for the massive custom water cooling.

Distance to TJMax as the name suggests indicates the distance from Thermal Junction Max, which is when the CPU will begin thermal throttling.

No worries, HWINFO is a powerful tool.
