ROG MAXIMUS Z790 and GR701 FAN Hub question

Alfamaster
Level 7

I have a ROG MAXIMUS Z790 Hero Eva-02 motherboard and the same family Hyperion Eva-02 case. The case came with the GR701 Fan Hub ARGB controller, which has 6 ports for PWM fans and ARGB, and also 1 FIO port and 1 side panel port:

Is this hub only able to work with the same configuration for everything? LED addressing?

I connected to it the following ARGB cables:

  • Front panel to FIO and Side panel to side panel, as expected
  • PSU
  • AIO Ryujin fans (3 fans)
  • ROG Herculx Graphics Card Holder
  • 3 Front case fans (140mm), daisy chained to a single Port...

The 3 case front fans have 12 LEDs each, so total 36 LEDs daisy chained to a single ARGB port in the Fan Hub.

Problem:

I can now only address 36 LEDs via the Fan Hub. I tested in Armoury Crate (Win11) and also in Linux (OpenRGB SDK and my own Python program).

Each one of the 36 LEDs I can turn on to a specific color. Each one of these 36 FAN LEDs is coupled somehow to another LED in the same FAN HUB.

Explanation:

If I turn on 1 FAN (12 LEDs) to color Red, then other 12 LEDs somewhere else also turn on Red, e.g. 9 LEDs in a top fan + 3 LEDs in the next top fan in the Ryujin AIO.

If I turn on FAN 2 (another 12 LEDs) to color green, then another 12 LEDs somewhere else also turn on Green. E.g. The Herculex, and half of the PSU LEDs... Or half the Side panel, and half the FIO...

Question:

  1. Is this expected behavior?
  2. Is there a way to solve this, and have each one of the 6 ports be addressable independently somehow?
  3. Is there an alternative hardware which is similar size, similar function, but which actually lets me address each one of the ~100 LEDs individually?

Thank you.
