Ram upgrade

Hi, i was thinking upgrading my ram (ddr4) from 8gb to 16gb, but then i saw thread that said you don't really need more than 8 if you do just gaming and everyday browsing. Yet if i play games i see they use ram like ...upto 5gb and also pagefile is used.

If i updated to 16gb would there be enough memory so no need for pagefile use anymore? Would it make my computer faster? Or would i even notice any difference in real life use....

Also, i have now 2x4gb of ddr4, if i update i have to buy exactly same set right? Same xmp profile etc. and i should be fine.

What exact ram do you have now?

Ram normally accounts for less than 5% of game performance.

No game at present to my knowledge uses more than 8gb of ram, But that is not to say a game that uses more than 8gb will not be released in the next 12 months.

Yes it is not good to mix ram.

I have 2x4gb kingston 2133mhz ddr4 currently, was thinking buying another 2x4 gb set of same memory. But if i don't really need it why bother.

You probably don't need it to be honest...

If you do want to upgrade the best idea is to get a single 16GB kit. Mixing kits...even "same"make and model is not guaranteed to be hassle free and might need tweaking in the BIOS not something everybody wants or is able to do...

So what you saying is...i have 2x4gb of kingston fury ddr4 2133mhz ram now, if i buy exactly same pair to upgrade to 16gb it might not work without tweaking....i already ordered it but i guess it would be possible to switch to 2x8 gb kit, just bit more expensive and 2x4gb would be left unused.

Yes, that is a possibility...

That platform is more forgiving with mixing kits than others but it is not guaranteed to work...

Best would be a single 2x8 kit and sell the old RAM if you can

4x4gb kit or a 2x8gb kit. If you add a same ram kit like you have now to the kit in the motherboard it may not work properly even though it all has the same timings and all. I have see it not work and I have seen it work. If its already ordered stick it in and try it. Worst case send the kit back and be a full 16bg kit and ebay the 8gb kit you have now

Nah, it will work. If u have 2 slots filled & 2 slots empty, if it is the same brand, same Gb's and same timings etc, it will work, no tweaking in the Bios needed,, i'm 99% sure of it. If u stick to the same kind's of RAM, don't mix n match different rams, u'll be right...
If u ordered it already, i say get it and see what happens. 8Gb RAM in 2016 is okay, but a lil' on the low side. 16Gb is perfect, & 32 is for those doing heavy video encoding etc. 8Gb is plenty for gaming now, but later when new games come out? who knows, plus programs are getting far heavier with the resources these days. When it isn't enough & the OS gets more from the pagefile, that will slow things down.
I personally use 32Gb's of RAM, over-kill yes. But then again, i do use Asus's RAM Cache & RAM Disk. So it is not really overkill now right 🙂
Asus & MSi FTW (For the WiN 🙂 !!

Same model ram can vary even between batches so to say a 99.9% chance is on the high side of things. Your best chance for a stable system is 1 set of either 2 or 4 sticks tested to work together.
