Ram upgrade not working?

i recently upgraded my ram to 24gb yet my programs keep my disk at 100% and seem to not use much even any of the new ram i had installed.

i am using a G75vx

installed 2 gskill 8 gig ripjaw ram sticks-24.0GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 665MHz (9-9-9-24)

im not sure if this has to do with it but it says Memory Usage 13 % under speccy while im running all this stuff

all im doing is transferring files to my desktop,using internet and other programs, and winrar

some one aid something about Memory Remapping [enabled] to me

Always at 100% or bouncing up to 100 and not always sticking there. You can't make programs take more memory just because you want. They have to want it to. (unless it's a database software) What you are describing are cpu or disk intensive tasks. 24gb is overkill for the average user and even an avid gamer. What kind of disk do you have windows on. SSD or traditional hard disk.

Leave it on System Managed Size. It uses an algorithm to determine that. You almost never have to touch that.

I would have not upgraded my RAM first and would have instead upgraded my drive to an SSD. After further investigation I see you have a 5400RPM 1TB HDD stock in that G75vx. That's *really* slow and likely why you're having a ton of disk activity as it's constantly having to slam the disk with read/writes. I would have considered a 512GB-1TB SSD before the 24 gig RAM upgrade. Any reason for the 24GB?

BTW: You're on Windows 8 right? If so then it sounds like the RAM upgrade it working.

sdd is a little to expensive for me.also wont windows 9 becoming out if so il have to get an entire new computer because this is a windows fail 8 computer

Nothing wrong with Windows 8. The customers just want their start button back (which you can get with free app btw). I am asking because if it was Windows 7 certain variants can't see over 8GB of RAM. 8 can see 128GB even if it's not Pro.

Bottom line is. This is likely working correctly. You are probably seeing the high disk activity because it's a slow 5400RPM drive. Is it always at 100% disk or does it bounce up and down.

If you open task manager via ctrl+alt+delete and go to the performance tab, look at the disk performance on the left side under Disk. Mash the "F5" key on the keyboard to force the window to refresh faster. Is it staying 100%?

There will be always new hardware and software/OS coming out... you don't have to have the newest all the time...

PowerOver9K is right, your HDD is one of the slowest theses days... for the tasks you have described an SSD would make you feel it is faster... - you do not need 512GB SSD, get a 128GB one for the system and programs and keep your data on that 1TB HDD...

Again i cant afford over 150-200$ and SDD are 300+? im guessing
