Quick RAM Question

Bescrawl
Level 7
I have the maximus ix code and have installed 16gb of F4-3733C17D-16GTZA (G.Skill Trident Z) RAM.

I have looked at the QVL but even though it is not indicated...would it work if I added another 16gb of the exact RAM to make 32gb? If not, does it have anything to do with the use of "D" or "Q" in the product name?

Thanks all.

Hi Bescrawl

It's not recommended to combine memory kits of the same specs, it can sometimes work and sometimes not, it's not worth taking the chance. If you're just gaming 16GB is enough.

Or if you need 32GB it would be better to get a single 32GB kit.

Even if both kits would be on the QVL, you have no warranty that they will work...
The parameters you see on the kits are just a part of the whole story... - there are way more to match...

The difference between the "D" and "Q" you can check on the GSkill site... also, there you can see if they both are recommended for your platform...
But as Nate152 said, you better use a single kit... specially if you're not ready to dive into the world of RAM settings...
