Questions regarding RAM speed and MoBo speeds

Kashell

I went and looked at the forums, and found an answer to my question. The Board has to support OC, and be overclocked up to the speed on the RAM.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I am looking to build my first desktop, and I am looking at purchasing the ASUS MAXIMUS VII HERO LGA 1150 Intel Z97. I have already purchased the Intel i7 4790K processor, and I am now looking at RAM. All the ram that I am seeing is DDR3 2133 or above, but the boards are only listing 1866 and below, with being (OC) overclocked. Before I spend the money on something either not have the parts be compatible, or get them installed and fry something on start up, I am wondering if someone could please assist with a little knowledge and advice on how those two speeds relate.

RAM I am looking to purchase:

G.SKILL Trident X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2400 (PC3 19200) Desktop Memory Model F3-2400C10D-16GTX

G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB (4 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2133 (PC3 17000) Desktop Memory Model F3-17000CL11Q-16GBXL

Hello Kashell

There won't be much of a difference in performance while gaming with the two kits you have listed but I would choose the trident x kit, both kits will work with the maximus vii hero.
