Question about Maximus V Formula CPU and Video Card power

Level 7
Hi, I was wondering if the 8 pin cpu power on the Maximus V formula would be necessary for a Intel i-5 3570k Ivy Bridge processor. My power supply doesn't have an 8 pin cpu cable so if I do need the 8 pin would there be any adapter? I have a Seasonic ss-700hm psu. Also, I was wondering if , since my psu didn't come with the second 6 pin pci-e modular cable, would my video card get enough power to run well if I use a 6 pin pci-e Y splitter to power my Video Card? I have an EVGA Nvidia GEForce 460. This will be my first build and I'm kind of confused about it.

100's of thousands of folks have been using Sandforce controllers with maybe a couple having issues. The whole thing about Samsung is that their controller is ultra stable and that is what Enterprise customers want. The Sandforce will be quicker in benchmarks but both will be the pretty much the same in real world.

The later versions of the Sandforce controller firmware update sorted out those few problems that users had. So I think you can select which ever you prefer. You will be happy with either type. Currently the best bang for buck has to be the Sandforce based controllers look around there are a couple of great bargains. Way under £1 per GB.

The cheaper one is OEM and is for one machine (one build only) the other is DVD retail and for one user and more than one build.

Me I would download the Win7 Ultimate 64 and trial use it for three months - this is legal and allowed. Then get Win8 when it is released.

Ok thanks, how do I get the trial when I build the computer? Do I download it and write to a disc or something?

Yes, download it directly from Microsoft and burn to a DVD.
Or you can use "Windows 7 USB DVD download tool" to create a bootable USB stick instead of burning to DVD.

Looks like Windows 8 is the only one currently available for trial download:

I found a Windows Enterprise trial would that work? Also, would running Linux work fine too until win8 comes out?

I you are going to run a trial, it might just as well be the Enterprise version.

If you want to run Linux, go right ahead.
