Prime Z790-P WiFi sata drives not recognized

corsair 850w, 12700T (for now), 7200 g.skill, board on latest bios, reset done too.

i plug in any previously pefrectly fine functioning sata drive and it doesn't show up not even in bios. though i didn't get the chance to install a system yet.

struggling finding drivers for the m.2 drives they aren't listed at windows drive selection but they do in bios. i also tried to just get the sata drives listed at windows install, no luck. sata drives look like they aren't even plugged in. like not at all. i'll try a sata hdd to just listen to it spinning. hard to tell if a sata ssd is on or not.

i use the consecutive 8 cpu plugs of course, the extra 4 i left unplugged. can this be a problem? i wouldn't think so for the extra 4 pins and in fact all the pins at the cpu are for... the cpu not the bridges / controllers. plus the 12700T tdp is like 30 watts at peak. not 130+

turns out i had to disable intel rapid storage technology. i don't believe i had to turn this off with my older boards. maybe it was by default disabled and everything worked without touching anything and having in factory defaults.

just a personal opinion, to those who think they need nvme/m.2 drives in raid.... you don't 😄
