POST failure with XMP enabled on Maximus X Hero

I have just installed a Maximus X Hero with an 8700K and Dominator Platinum 2x8GB 3200MHz.

Simply enabling XMP results in a POST failure. The onboard diagnostic LED under the QLed indicator shines yellow indication a ram issue. QLed code is 6E. It has trouble booting, takes a long time and then results in POST error. I have not flashed the latest X Hero bios. Would appreciate any assistance.

I would flash to the latest BIOS first and foremost, as there may have been some changes to the memory rules for certain kits. If you're still getting the same issue, comeback and we can cover some items for you to try.

I will flash the current Bios asap.

The manual recommends installing to slots A2 and B2 with two sticks. It is these slots I have the problem. I have swapped them to slots A1 and B2 and have not had the problem again yet but it is to soon to say that it is not still a problem on these slots also.

It would appear that my board shipped with the current Bios version 1003...

You can run a memory stress test to check stability within the os.

The issue seems to be when the sticks are in the A2 and B2 slots. Any reason why that might be?

Will run a mem test.

Edit: What memory stress test do you recommend aside from the Linux based stressapp I've seen you mention?

HCI Memtest or RAM Test. Both require a license, though. The former is a bit trickier to configure, while the latter costs more. Pick your poison. Some CPU/memory kit configs prefer A2/B2 over A1/B1. Comes down to MRC tuning and differences in slot electrical characteristics.

Hi Raja,

What are the characteristic differences between slots A1/B2 and A2/B2 on the Maximus X Hero?

Interaction between vias, traces, IMC, and memory modules. Some combos may experience less ringing in one pair of slots, over another.

Are you using by any chance CMD16GX4M2B3200C16 because if so... I have same setup as you, it is my 3rd 8700k and 2nd x hero and 2nd dominator set all previous boards etc using all bioses with latest new system revieved 2 days ago same thing current bios 1103 .
with xmp enabled my system posts twice with dram lit & code 32 seems to be the most steadiest code. Without XMP for me I will get a series of post attempts at 2132mhz WITH MCE ON and if i disable MCE then no repost but quick 32 code. However in after it does post successfully everything seems fine.

Is yours anything like this?

If so I am very keen on hearing anything RAJA may have to say as I killed 2 8700k's and a previous hero and RAM set.
