I recently bought the ROG G20AJ and was impress with what it can do for it's size. However I am intrested in building my own within a few years or after college.

Main Goal: Run most current game as of October 25,2015 at Ultra setting (BF4 is an exception at high)
Can be used as a productivity station
Keep the ROG color scheme
Run a triple monitor setup
Within a $1200-$1300 budget

CPU: Intel Core i5-4460 3.2GHz Quad-Core

hello! few questions.. do you plan on overclocking? and is this primarily going to be used for gaming?

if your going to be doing more gaming, and would like to OC a bit, I would spend the extra $50 and get the i5-4690k. the 4460 is 3.4 turbo where the 4690k is 3.9 turbo.. plus with being a K your unlocked and can OC.
graphics, the 960 is nice but 3 monitors at 60hz.. and running games on Ultra your probably going to want at least a 980 or 980 ti. (cuts into the budget but a strong GPU is always useful for +++ years before needing to upgrade)
HDD, is there any particular reason for the 1TB? at todays prices getting a larger SSD seems more reasonable.. plus if your leaning towards a silent build the HDD will most likely be the loudest in your PC.
memory, 16gb is always a good choice.. 2x8gb.. at least 1600-1866mhz? other than that this shouldn't be too much for a first build at all 🙂

welcome to the forum btw! 🙂 ROG ftw!!!

Thank you and yes as a primary gaming station, and maybe some type of programing depends on the type of career I end up with lol. Also thank you for the video card option I wll look at it! The 1TB HDD gave me room to put stuff I didn't need into a hardrive, However I could opt for a 500GB HDD and a 500 GB SSD for a even mixture of what was needed and what will be stored away.
Thank you for welcome! 🙂

If I had a $1300 budget to spend on a gaming PC, I would rather buy the latest tech instead of using the last gen. This is what I came up with which should suffice for a gaming PC at 1080P.

CPU: Intel Core i5-6600K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor ($273.98 @ Newegg)
CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i GTX 70.7 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler ($94.99 @ Micro Center)
Motherboard: Asus MAXIMUS VIII RANGER ATX LGA1151 Motherboard ($202.98 @ Newegg)
Memory: Kingston HyperX Fury Black 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-2133 Memory ($101.99 @ SuperBiiz)
Storage: Kingston Savage 240GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($99.99 @ Adorama)
Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($59.75 @ OutletPC)
Video Card: Asus GeForce GTX 960 4GB Video Card ($198.50 @ Newegg)
Case: NZXT H440 (Black/Red) ATX Mid Tower Case ($99.99 @ NCIX US)
Power Supply: SeaSonic G-750 750W 80+ Gold Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply ($102.99 @ SuperBiiz)
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 Home OEM (64-bit) ($89.89 @ OutletPC)
Total: $1295.05
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

I really didn't think about if my pick was old gen or new gen lol
Thank you! also if I do want to run at a higher resoulation or play with 3 monitors would buying two GPU be beneficial?

It all depends on the level of eye candy you want to see in your games and the amount of FPS you're willing to game at. A single GTX 960 performs quite good on 1080P. You should easily get 30FPS+ on modern games with High to Ultra preset. If you're planning to game at 1440P, then a GTX 970 or 980 is what you would want to buy. For 4K, you're looking at a GTX 980 Ti. And lastly, you'd need at least 2 GPUs to game on 3 monitors. But not 2 GTX 960s because they lack the firepower for 3 monitors.

That is pretty sweet! If I build a PC for a friend or family soon, I will refer to this list. You always want peeps you love to have good PC's, but most of them want a good build for as cheap as possible.

Thanks, Chino!

The following video shows some similar parts to Chino's suggested build so I thought it might be good for 'build inspiration.' It is not a building video, it pretty much just shows the build and discusses some of the issues with building it:
