Planning an Upgrade

Hey guys,

I'm planning to upgrade my build, and trying to keep it full ASUS. let me know what you think! Any suggestion is greatly appreciated!

Case - Corsair Obsidian 650D or Corsair Graphite 600T White
MOBO - Rampage IV Formula or Maximus V Formula
CPU - Core i7-3770K or a new Ivy Bridge Core i7 that's compatible with X79
Graphics - ASUS HD7970 or GTX680
Memory - Any suggestions?
PSU - Corsair AX1200

I already use the Corsair H80 liquid cooler and use a Corsair Force GT 240GB SSD. Currently using the Corsair AX850 PSU, but if I make these upgrades, I'm not sure if it will be enough.

What do you want to use your system for? This is very important as to selection your components.

If you game and such, then please go the LGA1155 and 3770K route (3570K would be my choice).

HD7970 gets the nod from me, I own multiple 680's and have put a 7970 on my 24/7 system.

Memory is dependent on what motherboard you go for. As to your PSU more than enough.

I'm planning this upgrade for gaming. Yeah looking at the options, I was leaning towards the HD 7970 as well. I guess I'll take your advice and wait for the Maximus V Formula. Which memory would you recommend? I'm looking for about 16GB at minimum.

Do you know something, heard something? Maybe an Ivy Bridge-E? 🙂

All I've heard is that Intel is planning to slowly push out the Sandy Bridge processors to push through the Ivy Bridge 🙂

I don't have any specific time frame as such, just taking it step by step, with the graphics card my priority.

I think you should wait with the memories for the Maximus V Formula... at least until Asus start selling it - then you could check the QVL too. Until then it would be risky to suggest any memory kit for that mobo...
