Parts for a friend's new build

Hello guys. A friend of mine are looking at getting a new pc as his is now a bit old. And I'm looking at some parts that will fit his need.

The build will be used mainly for 1080p single screen gaming. While he have one more screen e only games on one screen.
While the budget for the build is a bit unclear he doesn't want anything overkill it just have to play most modern games at around 60fps. So I would say a budget of about 2000 dollars. While he himself doesn't overclock I might make him, or do it myself.

Here are the parts I'm thinking of mainly:
Chassi: He wanted a full tower chassi even though he won't need it :D. For the chassi I'm thinking about Phantom or Switch 810.
Motherboard: RoG MVF
CPU: 3570k
GPU: Either a 670 or a reference 680
Memory: G.skill Ripjaws Z CL7 1600mhz 4x4gb. (Look at them sexy timings :D): http://www.gskill.com/products.php?index=469
Psu: Either a HX850 or a AX750
SSD: For now one ssd for the os will be enough, I'm thinking Samsung 830 128gb
HDD: A 2tb will be enough, recommendations?
Cooling: For cooling I'm thinking about the H100i but as my friend works as a plumber I'm going to try to convince him of making a custom water cooling loop 🙂

I'm wondering what you guys think as well as I need some recommendation for a HDD. Also what do you guys think, ref 680 or some kind of non-ref 670, this is due to there being some ref 680s at the price of a non-ref 670.

The build might be started either this year or early next year.

4gig 680, that way he can use both screens, game on one and use the other one as slave ( programs, monitoring++ )
2TB as long its not a green one.
switch 810

Good choices.

The price for the 256 Samsung SSD is very good and more cost effective price/GB than the 128GB drive.

4GB card is a good option but only if you are going to game on two or more screens.

A 4gb gpu is overkill as he is only gaming on a single monitor and there ain't much ram used in windows.
As the ssd will be os only a 120 gb will suffice. The 256 ones here are still around double the price.

Ah would have hoped that the prices had dropped more. I picked up a 256GB for 141 and the 128GB costs 119.

Here it seems it's 1000 sek for 128 and 1450 sek for 256. I forgot that the 128 was on sale for a while for 800 sek. Now it's 1000 sek again.

I'd say either go for the high end single card like one 680 or sli a couple of 670s (like one now with idea of buying another one later). For value for the money the 670 is hard to beat. This last would be my main priority if I was gaming....even sacrificing on other stuff if I had to. Some games are already taxing sli setups...to get to 60fps on top end graphics settings....not many but they are out there.

The thing is that the price difference here is really big between non-ref 670 and non-ref 680, around 150$ and he wouldn't listen to me when I told him that you actually need a high-end card nowadays, some years ago for his old rig he bought high-end cards and didn't experience any big difference, so he is somewhat skeptical towards getting high-end cards like the 680......Even had a hard time to make him think of getting a 600 series...

Well, I suppose I can see the sense in getting one high end card if you plan to get the next generation when they come out and if he is going to stick at that resolution for a while then sure maybe a 670 is going to have you covered for a while....then either get another or upgrade to a 770 or whatever it will be called. However I think you are right...if you are into gaming a 600 series is what you want if you want to play at your monitors top resolution on good graphics settings and at decent framerates.

If you are not going to OC cards I reckon the reference cards will be great. Even if you do OC I think they are great just maybe noisy. though the non ref ones get noisy too when you push them.
