New ROGer trying to figure out what I need.

Hello I am new to the PC gaming and building industry so I would like some advice on my current build.
Chasis: Cooler Master Scout
Motherboard: ASUS ROG Maximus VI Hero
CPU: Intel Core i5-4670K 3.4GHz OC to 3.8GHz 6MB cache
RAM: Corsair Vengeance 1600 MHz 16GB DDR3 240 pin
Storage: 1 TB 7200 RPM HDD
Optical Drive: DVD drive
OS: Windows 8 Pro
GPU: ASUS GTX 650 E 2GB GDDR5
PSU: 1000 Watts

I was wondering if this was a good start for a first time builder like me, I am on a less than $1500 budget so any help with this is greatly appreciated.

Welcome, to ROG and to building (warning: it's HIGHLY addictive!)

Your build looks solid, with a couple of minor adjustments...

1 - that gtx 650 is going to be a bottleneck. Pick up a 760 instead.

2 - try to work a SSD into your budget, at least for your system drive. The performance advantage is enormous, and even though they aren't cheap you get a solid bang for your buck.

3 - you won't NEED 1000w psu for the build you proposed; however, a solid quality high-capacity psu is a good investment as it will grow with you through several builds. If you need to shave a few bucks here to facilitate the ssd or gpu, you could get by fine with 600w, but you'll probably need to upgrade it for your next build.

Also, in the interest of shifting your budget to allow a ssd and a better gpu... while the Corsair Vengeance is great ram, high end ram isn't going to have a huge real world impact on your gaming experience. Any generic ram with similar speed/timings would do just as well and probably save you a few bucks. You don't really need high end ram until you get serious about overclocking and benchmarking.

What is your exact budget then? I may have a build for you.

Top of the list for a speedy system

SSD that is the single biggest upgrade.

VGA that can be changed later if you already have the card, but if you are buying the card then I would suggest a 769 or 770 if your budget can manage.
To help us help you - please provide as much information about your system and the problem as possible.
