New PC build - Looking for advice on parts.

Hello everyone! As title says im looking to build a new PC and hand my current one over to the wife.

Budget is around 2000$
Intended use: Gaming mostly.

What im looking for:

Looking to put in a nice clean gaming motherboard because of the case design. I would prefer one that lights up nicely. I would also need RAM, SSD's, Power Supply, amazing fans, and a CPU water cooler wich I was thinking the Swiftech H220 X (I will likely not watercool this tower but I might in the future.) So the fans would need to be good for the temps and low noise.

I am looking to overclock the CPU as well.

Case I pre-ordered: EVGA DG-87
GPU I was thinking the 1070? I think the 1080 is a bit too pricey.
Monitor resolution: Currently using 1920x1080 but would consider upgrading for a good price.

I would like to see you upgrade your monitor to at least 1440p, the GTX 1070 would do well at that resolution and likely overclock well but we'll see where we're at then you can decide on a monitor.

+1... I would go maybe on Hero non ALPHA, and look to save every dollar for investing in cheapest GTX1080.
I think cheapest GTX1080 cost arround 600-610$. 20$ on PSU (850W instead 1000), 30-40$ on motherboard(Hero instead ALPHA), 2 case fans for 25$(corsair Twin Pack) instead of 50$ and little buy little you crawl closer GTX1080.
Except that this configuration is best... who will pay 2000$ for Z97 and 4x4GB RAM and 260$ for PC Case and 4790K... .

Hmm.. So I do agree with Vlad in lowering some parts.

Im thinking of doing this:

Hero 8 Alpha: 230$
i7 6700k: 315$
Swiftech H240 X: 150$
16Gb Ram: 110$
6 Noctua fans: Not entirely sure on what ones yet, but say 240$
1TB SSD: 310$
1080 GPU: Price?

Thats a total of 1355$ not including the GPU. I get so confused with the 50 types of the same card from 15 different makers that I have no idea wich one is best bang for your buck so to speak.

I have also taken into consideration the warning of the swiftech and still I think im gonna go with it. Ive done a lot of watching vids and reading forums and they all point to it being the one I want. But thanks for the heads up.

I need at least 6 fans because im going to replace the stock fans and there is 2 on both sides plus the 2 on the rad. Quiet is best for me, but I do not want to sacrifice performance by lowering the fans rpms just for it.

I can also take 1 of the 250Gig SSDs from this current PC, and buy a smaller say 500Gig SSD for storage instead. That would also lower my price down a bit I feel. In fact scratch that, I will just take all my SSDs from this PC, and put them in the new one so that saves me 310$ and just swap her current drive into this tower. lol

I would also recommend a Z170 build, Nate's build is excellent
I have to give my opinion on the Swiftech cooler, although they seem to get very good reviews and look very nice, come with some of the best fans, I purchased a 240X from Newegg that came with a leak, fortunately it was leaking in the box so I never installed it, which could have been very bad, they didn't have any more in stock so I returned for a full refund, I then purchased one from Performance PCS with the same outcome, it was also leaking in the box, I also returned for a full refund, which took much longer from PCS as the refund had to be approved by Swiftech, I probably will not try Swiftech again

I love the build parts, and yes I need an OS because im handing this PC to my wife so I will need one for the new PC as well. I do not particularly like that H220x2 look, not as sleek as the H220x, is there a big difference in performance between them?

I like the Formula 8 look way more so I will go with that for sure.

If I do get the h220 should I add the vrms to the loop? I was not planning on doing that to begin with.

With the resolution issue, would I need a new monitor? and if so, any suggestions?

You can purchase braided cables from a number of companies EVGA for example supply kits to suit your PSU.
Google around for best prices and suppliers.

BTW: NATE has suggested a better build than what I showed as an example. I merely wanted you to be aware of PartPicker.

just as an sugestion, have OS on one ssd and games on the other.
and do not overfill the ssd's.

I've tried several aio coolers including the Swiftech H240 X and the best of the bunch is easily the EK Predator. With them you need no software, they are controlled from the MB bios.

edit to add...... They have quick-connects for adding gpu's to the loop.
