New Maximus V Formula Build

I have some questions that I hope you might be able to help with. Also note that some items in my build were chosen, somewhat, for aesthetics and the deals that were going on at the time of purchase. And yes I love red and black. I dont care how much its been done!

Budget: Was 1500 w/o monitor and went over by 54$ before November. During November (with sales going on) I was able to build it for 1365ish with monitor and better gear. Score one for me 😃
Main uses of intended build: Gaming, everyday internet and general purpose, music production (DAW), Some photo and video editing. In that order.

Parts purchased:

Previous build information:

  • GPU - GeForce GTS 450 (o.0 Been awhile, lol)
  • HDD - 1TB generic sata
  • Optical Drive - DVDr/rw generic
  • Monitor - Westinghouse 22" Wide. That now thinks its and acer 17 inch after it took a dump last year. I've since replace the capacitors and am able to get 1680x1049 (yes 1049) resolution out of it.

Will you be overclocking: I would like to have an on demand OC setup for music, video and photo processing, but not a serious concern. More likely to OC the GPU.

So now to my questions/concerns.

1) Is that PSU going to be enough? The PSU calculators I ran seem to think so. They came up with apx 540+ W. I also added more then what I will be currently running to play it on the safe side. Accounted for capacitor aging, OC of the cpu (which I probably wont do) and a water-cooling setup (I will be adding that in the near future). I believe there are 54 amps across the 4 +12v rails along with the four (6+2)-pin PCI Express supplementary power connectors.

2) Will I be able to run mu old GPU to handle some or all of the PhysX and would it even be beneficial to do so? If its not is there anything else I could benefit from by taking advantage of my 2nd older card?

Thanks and Ill post some pics when its done!

Welcome to the ROG boards, tof3r78. You've picked your parts well. Don't worry about the PSU. It'll be more than enough to power your system.

The GTS 450 is a very capable card for running Physx. If it's working, might as well put it to good use for the new rig. 😛

That's a great build you're going to have there, & if the need be to overclock you won't have any problems with that mobo ! Great build m8 🙂
