New build

Greetings!

After some catching up on the current hardware scene (it's been a while since i built a new system), i came up with the following setup.

Keywords: Gaming, moderate overclocking, looks

Case
Corsair Obsidian 650D

Mobo
ASUS Maximus V Formula
(I was first planning to go with the Gene, but this board just looks the part + a nice future perspective for a clean looking watercooling loop)

CPU
Intel Core I5 3570K

GPU
ASUS GTX670-DC2-2GD5

RAM
2x4GB Corsair Vengeance Red (1866 Mhz)
2x4GB Corsair Vengeance Black (1866 Mhz)
(I guess it's a bit of overkill, but it's not like RAM costs a fortune these days + i think it's going to look quite good)

ROM
Corsair 120GB Force GT
WD 2TB Caviar Green 64MB

PSU
Corsair AX750 Professional Series Gold

Optical drive
LITE-ON IHES212-31 BLU-RAY Reader black

CPU Cooler
Corsair H100
(Still not sure about this one, I'm reading a lot of different reviews about this cooler. But I'm probably going to sell it after a few months to replace it with a custom loop)

Fans & add-ons
Akasa brushed ALU card reader, interconnect pro3x 120mm magmaflow (2 on the rad & 1 in the back)
1x 200mm CM Megaflow red LED (front fan)
Cold cathode red
Red lit switch for all lighting, still figuring that one out.
Maybe some sleeved cables (bitfenix)

Let me know what you think! (Pro's / Con's about the selected parts, alternatives, ...)

Welcome to the ROG forum!

The parts look pretty OK... only one thing caught my eyes - the memories. If I would be you, I would go with a 4x4GB kit... and would choose the Dominator series or some GSkill kit... it's just an idea...

How come? Some bad experiences with the vengeance series?

can anyone tell when this mobo is going to be released!!!! i want one if i can ever find one

It's not out yet, I'm waiting for it too. (along with a whole lot off others i guess) 😛

The latest news suggests it's going to be released due end this month.

Sincerely, I never had any kit from Vengeance series - mainly because I had the feeling from my readings that there is more problem with the Vengeance... and somehow I always had from the Dominator series if it was Corsair - and never let me down! Lately, the GSkill showed to be very compatible with the Asus products, a lot of people had good experience with it - that's why I suggested it... 🙂

Allright, i'll take that in consideration. Thanks for the tip!

It would be a far better idea to only buy one kit of ram. Two kits even if they were the same model is a problem waiting to happen.

Vengeance should be fine with LGA 1155 socket by the way as they are dual kits. There were many problems with folks on the X79 platform and vengeance kits especially when they tried to use LGA1155 kits with LGA 2011 platform.
To help us help you - please provide as much information about your system and the problem as possible.

This is very good advice, It is always better to buy all of you memory as a single kit as apposed to multiple kits, even if it is the same make and model for the sake of having no compatibility problems.

'' With high capacity kits, it is necessary to purchase the entire kit because they are a perfectly matched set. Especially with the Intel X79 platform, if you do not have a matched set, you will encounter instability issues. '' this information came from GSkill Tech Support.

Thanks for the advice! I might just go with the G.Skill RipjawsZ 16Gb DDR3-1866 Quad-kit F3-14900 then.
