New Build X99

Hi Everybody,

My old computer is historical haha, I can't play modern games and it made me angry so I decided ima get my self a new rig 🙂
I am from Israel and everything here is overpriced (a lot), but at least ill have warranty 🙂
I did a lot of research and finally came here to ask people for suggestions and thoughts 🙂
Here is the build i'm thinking:

Motherboard : Asus rampage V extreme
CPU : I7-5820k
CPU : Cooling: Noctua NH-D15 ??????
GPU : Zotac 980 Ti Amp Extreme
PSU : 1000w Corsair
RAM : Ripjaws V DDR4 4x8 3000mhz
SSD : Pcie SSD Intel 750
Case: Corsair 900D

This is what I think ill be getting, sorry if missed something.
My current problem is cooling cpu/fans in case, I never tried water cooling but I always used noctua products.
I will be overclocking the 5820k to 4-4.2 and the pc will be used for gaming and streaming in future.
Games mainly would be Armored Warfare and Dota 2, but I would love to try new games as well 🙂

I would really appreciate any thoughts and suggestions on the build 🙂

You are fine. Look at this pic of the R5E slots with a 28-lane CPU (click the pic a couple of times to make it bigger if you want):



Looking at only the 'red' slots, see how you can use the 1st and 3rd slots and the first 'red' slot will remain x16 while the 3rd 'red' slot goes to x8? The Intel 750 Series add-in card will work fine in the 3rd 'red' slot off of 8 lanes.

My Intel 750 Series add-in card (just like yours) is also only getting x8 in the 4th 'red' slot, even though I have a 40-lane CPU because I would have to put it in either the 1st or 3rd slot to get it to x16--at which it would work at its optimum level--but those two 'red' slots already have two GPU's in them in SLI so I have to use the 4th 'red' slot which is only an 8-laned slot.

Now if you would have gotten the 5930K CPU with 40 lanes, you could have then put your one GPU in the first 'red' slot and the add-in card into the 3rd 'red' slot and you would have had the Intel 750 Series working at its fastest. As it stands, though, with it being relegated to a x8 lane with the 5820K CPU, you are like most of the rest of us (including ASUS, apparently) who got surprised by the release of the add-in card after the R5E MOBO was designed.

I guess if you wanted, you could return the 5820K and get the 5930X and then have your add-in card in a 16-laned slot since you only have one GPU.

Thanks for replying, how much speed would i lose in terms write/read with 5820k ?
Since this PCIE ssd will be used for gaming, If in terms of speed it will drastically improve with 5930k I might return and get it.

Well, since the the scenario did not apply to me, I have not studied it. It looks like about about $225 USD more for the 5930K, though. Here they are compared on CPU boss: http://cpuboss.com/cpus/Intel-Core-i7-5930K-vs-Intel-Core-i7-5820K

One of the things that bothered me about the Intel 750 Series add-in card with the R5E MOBO was that I read that I would not be able to take full advantage of all the speed that the 750 Series has to offer unless I hooked it up to x16 slot. If you have $225 bucks to spend, I would think it worth it. It IS kind of weird that both the 5820K and the 5930K both have 6 cores (instead of 8 like the 5960X), but the 5930K has 40 lanes while the 5820K only has 28.

I am no expert, so if you can, you might wait a few hours to get some more feedback from other folks here, too, before you decide if it is worth it. (I DO remember wanting to be able to dedicate 16 lanes to the Intel 750 Series add-in card, though. You might also think about whether or not you want room for your USB 3.1 card, too--I 'think' that the R5E will not let a 16 lane happen when more than 24 lanes are used with a 28-lane CPU, so for that reason, too, the 5930K might be a better fit for you and your rig.)

The i7-5930K SR20R is the fastest-clocked Haswell-E part (3.5/3.7GHz, 6 core, 15MB, 4x16GB DDR4-2133, 140W). It is of course a lesser-binned i7-5960X SR20Q with some deactivated bad silicon but which can sustain higher operational speed.

There are also a couple of faster-clocked Haswell-EP parts - E5-1630-3 SR20L (3.7/3.8GHz, 4 core, 10MB, 4x192GB DDR4-1866, 140W) and E5-1680-3 SR20H (3.2/3.8GHz, 8 core, 20MB, 4x192GB DDR4-2133, 140W) - but they're both somewhat difficult for consumers to obtain.
I use an E5-1680-3 SR20H on my main R5E, it's a higher-binned i7-5960X SR20Q die packed with Xeon-grade memory controllers, it can be unlocked and overclocks well enough, and it's probably the most beautiful processor I've ever had in a home computer. If money is not a factor then this is the processor you want on your X99.

I'm used to Canadian prices, lol, sorry. But, yeah, they've dropped since last I looked:

Core i7-5930K = $760.58 - $799.99+
Core i7-5960X = $1375.00 - $1450.00+
Xeon E5-1680-3 = $2470.78 or $2799.72+ (special order from USA)

I wouldn't buy the i7-5820K part because of the 28 lane PCIe limitation, it could run a x16/x8 multi-GPU but a Z97/i7-4790K platform could run x8/x8 and get more overall gaming fps/performance at much less cost.

It is probably the cheaper medical expenses you have that compensate for the more-expensive product prices you have. . .. Americans do their best to buy their meds in Canada. Mexico or even India because they are so expensive here . . . and there is just no reason for the medical price-gouging but greed.
