Hi All,

Need some advise here, building a new PC and not sure on some items.

PC build so far,

ASUS Maximus VI Formula
i7-4771 - 3.5GHz - Socket 1150
ASUS GeForce GTX760-DC2OC-2GD5 - 2GB
Kingston HyperX Beast 16GB - PC3-17066 - DDR3, 2133MHz, 1.6V, CL11, 2x8GB

OK now,

should i stick with the memory above or go with this?
Kingston HyperX Beast 16GB - PC3-19200 - DDR3, 2400MHz, 1.65V, CL11, 2x8GB

should i stick with the G-Card above or go with this?
ASUS GeForce GTX 660 DC2OCPH-2GD5 - 2GB - PCI-E
OR
2 x ASUS GeForce GTX650TI-PH-1GD5 - 1GB - PCI-E in SLi

What about CPU, have i gone for the right one?
Any other help would be great!

The i7-4771does not have an unlocked multiplier. Overclocking will be limited to a few MHz BCLK increase and locking all cores to the turbo frequency.

Thanks for your reply Praz,
What CPU would you suggest?

If you plan on overclocking and depending on usage either the i5-4670K (4 core, 4 threads) or the i7-4770K (4 core, 8 threads).

Thanks again for your reply,

I have no plan to Overclock this PC. Its going to be running BF3 and BF4 with some web development tools.
So no overclocking needed.

So now which chip would you recommend,

ps, Just on the i7-4770K, would this mean i could do away with ASUS GeForce GTX760-DC2OC-2GD5 - 2GB??

Thanks

With no planned overclocking the i7-4771 will be fine.

Definately stick with the GTX 760.

Now regarding the RAM, I wouldn't pick either of the Kingston HyperX Beast kits. The reason is simple. From a performance point of view, they're slow for my standards and doesn't merit the price you pay for them. The 2133MHz CAS11 kit costs just around $185 and the 2400MHz CAS11 should go for around $200 or so.

You'd get way better bang for your buck with the G.SKILL Trident X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2400 kit. It goes for only $180 which is even cheaper and you get way better performance compared to the two Kingston kits.

Thanks For the replys.....

Maybe i should ask, if i have no plan to OC, am i going overboard with the ASUS Maximus VI Formula MB?

ROG is synonymous to gaming and overclocking. Basically any motherboard you buy from the Maximus VI series will have the same capability to overclock. The difference is in the features. For example, if you want to build a budget gaming machine, the Maximus VI Hero is a very decent motherboard.

i ❤️ MY HERO board..... (it is my first build (s) (I built twins)) I'm in no way shape or form an expert as far as computers go, but the Asus Hero board has shown my dim wit brain some mercy, (let's just say I've made some mistakes building, and dare i suggest the board took em and kept on ticking.).. I'm using an i5 4670k 3.5 stock, and the ai suite (I think... O.o) has me overclocked to a decent 4.2 (I understand it isn't as stable as it could be if I were to know what i am doing and manually adjust some voltages but .. meh...) I have an asus 7970 and it's a HUGE card but I think it's pulling it's weight. In anycase, nottttthing is overkill if you can afford it >:D I too am using Gskill memory, and as far as I can tell is pretty solid (i'm using the 16 gb kit 4x4 (mostly becuase I didn't want empty slots) I don't think it's one of the cooler 2133 kind, but ... i don't know any better anyway ...... asus maximus VI hero lga 1150 intel z87- intel core i5 4670k, 1 tb seagate hd, 240 kingston ssd... gskil ripjaws x series 16 gb (4x4) asus hd 7970-dc2 3gd5 and using a corsair 750w it's not the beast that i've seen some build, but it is my beast and it eats Dells for breakfast 😄
