hello, dear forum. i am wondering if my setup will allow me to finally update my high-end 360Hz monitor to experience the ULMB2. the issue is that I am gaming connected to the Razer laptop. next, when I try to run the updater it yells about the need of DP cable to be plugged directly into an Nvidia GPU. Sad fact: ALL nowadays laptops lack a DP port, making this case unbearable. Luckily, I turned up to have an old Nvidia GTX 1080 Ti card laying around and an eGPU plate where it goes well. then I plug the GPU into the PCIe slot, connect it via a TB3 cable to my laptop, connect the monitor via DP directly into an Nvidia GPU as desired. the monitor does seem to be responsive that way, for now all I see is the message asking me to plug the power supply to the GPU card. the PCIe slot provides around 75W of power, which may be inadequate for this card chip to post, but I am very skeptical about this, since it actually SHOULD be enough. and it is rather a voracious x2 8pin cables demanding ventilated radiatored ... GPU chip !! my question is next: do you think that it will / shall work in the end ? i am about to get a used 650W psu for it to try to test it, worst case I will re-use the PSU for another project involving an external ssd bootcamp running on macbook and working along with the eGPU. but this thing is particularly necessary, because of the update and it would be really annoying to try and fail, esp after reaching out to you ppl here 🙂 hence this post, cheers !
