I've just built my first pc and having problems.

Specs are:

Asus crosshair V formula-z
Amd 8320
Asus hd7990
2 x 4gb Kingston 1600
Corsair ax850
H100i
Samsung ssd 259gb
2 x seagate 3tb hdd
Asus 27 monitor

Have power on, mobo is lite up..code66, fans are running, hd7990 fans are running.

I have a dvi connector in the back of the hd7990 going to a dvi port in my monitor, my monitor isn't picking up any signal, I've tried all channels (VGA, dvi, hdmi, mini port) and nothing.

Any suggestions in what to do next...I'm stumped lol

Make sure your ram is seated properly and in the right slots. If you dont know which slots to place the sticks in, check the motherboard manual for a dual channel memory kit configuration. It will probably start with the left slot, leave an empty slot and then use the third slot.
NZXT Phantom (white/blue), ASRock Fatal1ty 990FX, ASUS HD7850 2gb, FX8150, 1TB 7200x HDD, 240GB Sandisk SSD, 16GB G.Skill Ares 2x8 @ 1866, Corsair 650w.

You can just make sure it boot using one stick of memory. Most MB memory slot 1 is closeted to CPU socket so it be 1 3 2 4

I'm having a similar problem with my new Crosshair V Formula-Z. I have a Corsair H100i to cool the CPU which uses an internal USB connection. When I tried to go to the bios, as soon as it hit the bios, mouse/keys (wireless btw) stopped working. I tech from Asus said they've had problems like this, and said there may be a bios update to take care of it. If plugging in one internal USB connection stops "all" the external USB connections, how am I supposed to run my H100i, and still have access to the bios for setup? Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Prometheus1 and Maths84 and Welcome to ROG

If you wish to update your Bios, you can use the ROG connect port on your IO panel.

1. Go to ASUS Support here: http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/CRO...Desk_download/
2. Download the latest Bios file 2101, and at the same time go to the Utilities section and download the Renamer utility.
Both these files should be downloaded to an EMPTY Fat32 formatted USB stick.
3. Activate the renamer, This will convert the bios file to CVFZ.CAP and check that it has done its job.
4. Power down your system so that only power to your MB is available. Peripherals can be left connected.
5. Insert the USB stick into the USB flashback port on your IO panel. (refer to your manual if not sure, page 2-12 & 2-13)
6. Press the ROG Connect button for 3secs until it starts to flash, When it stops flashing, it is done.
Do not turn off power during flashback.

You don't need a CPU, GPU or even the cooler connected with this method.

@Maths84
Your error code 66 (DXE initialization has started) can be one of a number of things.
DXE (Driver Execution Environments), once system RAM is initialized and the PEI phase completes, the DXE environment is entered. The Platform Controller Hub (PCH) Some northbridge functions, the memory controller and PCI-e lanes, were integrated into the CPU while the PCH took over the remaining functions in addition to the traditional roles of the southbridge.

Some of the usual things are bad contacts or bent pins in the CPU socket, Poor thermal contact between CPU and cooler or a bad mounting of the CPU, or even inadequate power to the CPU ( both 8pin and 4pin sockets should be populated if you intend OC). A short between MB and stand off pins. Could be your Dimms, have you mem-tested each module with Memtest86?
All these have to be ruled out and bench tested outside your case.

Hope this answers both your questions.
BTW, Have you read this guide for installing the H100i. http://www.corsair.com/en/blog/2013/february/how-to-install-the-hydro-series-h100i-cpu-cooler

Thanks for the info MeanMachine. I found out that I don't need the USB on the Corsair H100i in order for it to work. It's only an interface for software controls, which can be done from the bios as well. Granted, probably not as comprehensive as the Corsair link interface, but my CPU temps in the bios while idling as I work trying to get my drives recognized by Windows in Raid-0 are 30-32C. I also found out that the Corsair USB link should have no effect on the rear USB ports. I'm going to do as you said though, and update the bios, and see where things go from there. If you have any suggestions as to what the CSM setting should be, I would appreciate any help you might offer so that I can get my drives set up in raid-0. I'm able to format, and complete the raid setup with the drives, but when I attempt to load Windows the raid drive(s) don't show up. I'm wondering if I may have gotten a bad board, and need to get a replacement before my 30 day exchange with NewEgg is up, and after that, I'll be stuck with trying to RMA with Asus. Again, I'm very appreciative of your help. About to get that done within the next 20 minutes, or as soon as the flash drive is formatted, and I get the util and bios loaded to it.

Hi Prometheus1 🙂

The CSM in W7 will have to be enabled. Only in W8.1 can it be disabled, I believe. (not 100% sure)
Anyhow there are only 3 possible combinations so give each a try.

Regarding Raid setup. Not sure how you setup your Raid and too early to determine a bad MB however,

First you need to do a clean install of Windows, backup all important files first, then download the latest RAID drivers from the ASUS Support Site, extract them to a USB stick.
Restart and get into your BIOS, set your SATA ports to RAID then save and reboot again. Hit F6 repeatedly until the RAID menu appears and set up your RAID arrays. From there, install Windows and hope that Windows loads the correct drivers from the USB. Leave the USB stick in till windows has done its job.

AHCI (Advanced Host Controller Interface) is an essential part of raid and will Automatically turn on when setting up.

So far, I've been able to create my array from the bios, but when I begin loading Windows, it doesn't show any drive to load to. Not seeing my array in other words. I appreciate you being so quick about responding btw. If I may ask, what do you have your CSM settings set to? It should be the same as mine, raid-0 or not I would think. I'm going to try and install to a single drive as you said just to get it running, and download the correct drivers for raid. I've gone to Asus and downloaded the drivers from the Asmedia controller driver (which I won't use until I get Win loaded) and the AMD RAID Driver V3.3.1540.35.

The bios update didn't help with the wireless, but shows it's now running the 2101 bios. Thanks MeanMachine for the help. I've got my hands full today trying to get this thing (Crosshair V Formula-Z setup) running, as well as change out my Sabertooth rev.1 mobo with a new Sabertooth rev.2...got my work cut out for me in other words...lol.

Here's a pic of the machine before I finished filling the DIMM's up with another 2X8 kit.

Im using W7 so my CSM is enabled. Nice looking rig btw and yes, you have fun times ahead.

I too have had some issues with Raid, I now just backup to an external drive automatically at set intervals.
I read this conclusion when I got my latest SSD: http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/storage/display/kigston-hyperx-ssd-raid0_7.html#sect0
