Need Build Advice for M6I or M6G

Hi everyone ,

I need your help with my new system:

I have always built simple noOC computers before and in 2011, when I came to US from Turkey, I saw ROG G53JW. I needed a laptop, so bought this and still using it. It has been almost 3 years with laptop and mostly because the storage is not enough, I need a desktop. I am not that portable, but I don't have much space and I don't want a large computer. So I was thinking about building a system with M6I or M6G.

Budget: around $1000
Main uses of intended build: Moderate Gaming, Music Listening, Storage, Multitasking
Parts required: base system
Previous build information (list details of parts): ASUS ROG Laptop, Seagate 500 GB SSHD, 1 TB SSHD
Monitor resolution: 1050p TV
Storage requirements: "500GB+1TB+250/256 GB SSD"
Will you be overclocking: not sure, but def. not sth extreme
Any motherboard requirements (no. of USB, Xfire/SLI, fan headers): PnP Music is great with M6I, but SLI option of M6G is great too, and it can have more RAM to use with RAMdisk
Extra information about desired system:

PSU:
Corsair AX760i or AX860i

CPU:
Intel Core i5 4670K processor could be right for me.

GPU:
Intel. I really can't spend more now, I can wait to get a GPU and use the integrated grapics card or if I get M6G, I can get sth with ok performance and use it with SLI later (at least after 1.5 years) or does a second card without SLI have an effect?

RAM:
Corsair Vengeance 16GB DDR3 2400 Mhz or G. Skill Trident X 2400 Mhz memory for now.

HDD:

  • Samsung SSD 840 EVO 2.5-inch SATA 250GB
  • Samsung SSD 840 PRO 2.5-inch SATA 256GB
  • Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 3TB
  • WD Black 4 TB SATA Hard Drive

Case:

  • Cooler Master 130
  • Fractal Node 304
  • or a vertical option?
  • Bitfenix Prodigy
  • Parvum S1.0 acrylic

I'm planning to upgrade the system every 6 months with around $250 (adding GPU firstwatercooling second, Monitor, another HDD, or sth necessary for OC)
I don't know anything about cooling systems, but dust could be problem, so watercooling system could be next.
I think PnP music is very important for me. I will probably go with M6I.

for GPU you need a larger PSU, try the 750W.
never skimp out on the PSU and if it takes a huge load it will fry up in the end and CAN damage parts on your pc.
for sli i would say 850w as a minimum , single card 650w ( must be platinum if so ) or 750w.

os, the one you want.
some like w8 some do w7.

Thank you, I have changed my PSU options.

With M6I, is there any combination close to mine that I possibly need AX 860i?
Is AX760i fine with any M6I combination with a good GPU and 3 drives?

first and foremost if this will be a budget oriented rig without a dedicated gpu, i would always suggest amd, esp now that kaveri has come out, i dont know though if there are any ROG boards around the form factor you wanted, anyways back to your preferences

if you really, really want sli/xfire, more rams, and just more of everything you'd be better with mvig, but you need to change your psu if going that route, 550 watt wont suffice.

cpu wise, again if budget oriented go for i5 if not go for i7, i read from somewhere that it has better IMC (integrated memory controller)

rams are just preferences specially if not ocing, so my preference is g skill trident x, speeds around 2400 will do for everyday use, and is much cheap, filling the ram slots ofcourse of mvig is much more expensive than filling mvii

btw did you know that bitfenix prodigy is a good contender in the mini itx form factor also?

here's some helpful links

^you could just follow the same itx build and replace the board with mvii

best of luck to you my friend

edit : oh and one last thing, if you'd want and have lots of patients, you could actually wait for the haswell refresh, i believe it's coming around may hopefully, they would be backwards compatible thru bios updates as far as i know, or i might be wrong 😛
Mobo : Asus Maximus VI Impact || CPU : i5-4670k || Cooling : H100
GPU : MSI GTX 970 Gaming 4G || PSU : Corsair RM 650 || Rams : G Skill Trident X 4GBx2 2400 CL10
Monitor : 2x Asus VX239h + 1x HP w2207h || Chassis : Bitfenix Prodigy Red || OS : WIN8.1 x64
Periphirals : Corsair K95, Logitech g402, Edifier 3350

Thank you,

I will go with Intel this time.

Are you happy with your Bitfenix Prodigy so far with M6I? How do you use the extra space in the case? Does a good watercooling system will fit?

Hi mirejtr Welcome to the ROG community. I would go with the gene and out of those two mico atx cases I would choose the parvum. Both boards are about the same price and the gene supports 32 GB of RAM where the Impact only supports 16GB. Depending on the games you play you.re going to want to get a decent GPU like a GTX 670 or better and that will require a larger PSU in the 750 watt range. Will you be going SLI? That will require even a larger psu 1000 - 1200 watt range. SLI will give you almost double frames per second when gaming. And I can confirm SLI is nice. Not sure of your RAM speed but I would go with G.Skill Trident X 2400MHz. The Samsung 840 EVO's are one of the best SSD's out there right now. You're going to need a deecent cpu cooler if you decide to do any overclocking. I would go with the corsair H80i but you may have to do a little case modding to get the fan/radiator attached. As for your monitor, I would look at the quality brands of the size you want and read some reviews. I'm not sure how far you will be able to overclock your cpu with the H80i as the haswell cpu's do run hot but, it will be better than a heatsink and fan. One more thing, thie i5-4670k is perfect for you.

Thank you,

I'm not sure about OC. I didn't even upgrade my computer other than buying more RAM, changing PSU and adding more HDD, I just bought a whole new system, when it was very slow. So, if I can't go with SLI (M6I), is upgrading the CPU or OCing it, or upgrading the GPU or OCing, or upgrading RAM it common, if I need more gaming performance from my system? is it cheaper then SLI in the long run? I want the PnP Music so bad, so I don't think I would go for M6G.
