Need advice: Last build was 14 years ago

Monitor - ASUS PB278Q 27inch
OS - WIN 7 Home 64bit


Getting the itch to build again. I'm building to game but I do intend to OC also. Starting slow with the
Noctua cooler and then gonna water cool it later. What I'm really unsure of is the monitor.
Is the 144mhz monitor overkill since i'm starting off with just a single GPU . I'm also on the fence with the 750W PS thinking maybe the 1000W might be the better future proof route. Any advice would be appreciated.

I think I have everything just about in line with the build. Im on the fence about the monitor I want. The 24inch would work good but the
27 inch PB278Q really has my interest now. Does anyone have any experience with those two monitors? The 24inch is faster but the
27inch has higher resolution and a larger screen. Most of the gaming I do is space simulators if that makes a difference. Im using a 20 inch HP monitor so i guess anything would be better. Curious about any thoughts between the two ASUS monitors.

The 27" would be the one to get for sure. The higher the resolution the more detailed your games will look. But the higher the resolution the more demanding it becomes on the gpu. 2560 x 1440 is pretty taxing but does look sweet. Is there any way you could swing another gtx 780 for sli? You would have one awesome gaming machine if you could do that. You would also want to go with a 1000w psu. Seasonic is what most people recommend here.

the PB278Q is a 75HZ ( 75 FPS ) monitor, and i would guess its more aimed for the graphic designers and some gaming, but mainly for graphics . ( from what i can read about it )

Well, the parts for the build are starting to come in now. I Have the motherboard, power supply, video card, cooling solution OS , SSD and the CPU. As soon as the case and memory get here I will start the build. I have another question though. Should I use the driver cd that came with the motherboard then update driver files as needed from the ASUS site or download everything from the web site and use those exclusively? There were some driver files of which I was kind of confused about. Are there any programs from the cd that I should skip? Thanks for any and all advice.

You will want to install the LAN driver from the motherboard cd to get you connected to the internet then go to the asus website and get the motherboard drivers there. Install the chipset driver first then the usb drivers then the Nvidia driver. Anything else on the cd is pretty much optional.

Yeah, my old PC (from 5 years ago) is giving me headaches too.... I am not sure what to do since I want to game on 3D....

My current CPU is Core2 Quad Q9300 @ 2.5 GHz and my GPU is GTS 250 512 MB. Last week i left it to mine some litecoins and from then on, the whole PC became a nightmare to work on....however, without gaming, i think i can wait for Maxwell and Haswell-E.

So guys, any suggestions for some cheap upgrade that will keep my PC "surviving" until the end of that year? You know that everything inside is outdated by 5 years....

The H105 will fit in your case and your case comes with a fan controller. This will come in handy seeing how the H105 does not have software to control the fans like the H100i.
