Im trying to get a PSU for my build, but im not too sure about which kind to get. On most of them, i see the reviews and some people say it works great, but more than 50% say it blew up or started smoking as soon as they plugged it in. I just want to know how to go about finding a good GPU, and Im looking for one <$200 and => 800 Watts.

My current selection: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817182320&cm_re=rosewill_photon-_-17-182-320-_...

For a 2-way R9 290 Crossfire setup, a 800W unit should be good enough. But personally I like to have a little headroom for future upgrades or voerclocking. So personally I would get a SeaSonic X-1050 ( SS-1050XM2 ) 1050W for $164.99 after a $10.00 rebate.

If you prefer a 80+ Platinum unit, the SeaSonic Platinum-1000 1000W is awesome as well and only costs an extra $20 after the $10.00 rebate.

Seasonic are good psu's, Evga supernovas are good too and come with a 10yr warranty. I've never used a Rosewill psu so I can't comment on them.

Guru3d says 800w minimum but they used corsair AX1200i for testing, they are overclocking a 3960x to 4.6GHz and that's a good psu as well.

Go to the power consumption page.

I have EVGA SuperNOVA 1200 P2 and black sleeve Cable Set.
I like that set... somehow custom sleeve and MDPC-X are nice but thick for my taste, these are much better thin wires, you can thigt them nice with
velcro tapes, I have few EVGA velcro and they cover 1/4 place of normal PSU cables.
All of them could fit nicely between motherboard tray and side panel... For small cases... best.
I don't like when people use holders for every wire... like some girls with bobby pins in hars...every wire on own place...
Wires should stay naturaly no matter if one wire go over other...
I use always 400-500W more than I need... Because PSU work in fanless mode even under full load and still is cold.

That Rosewill Photon is a good choice at a good price (this week).

EVGA SuperNovas may be better and come with a phat 10-year warranty, but they also cost more. You might find the extra cost is worth the promise of a full decade of hassle-free operation. Although, honestly, any PSU with a 5-year or 7-year warranty is going to be a solid product which will probably outlast the rest of your system.

I would actually buy an 80Plus Platinum, personally, but nothing wrong with Gold. 1200W isn't strictly necessary for your build (1000W should be sufficient, unless you overclock, but 800W was not really enough, lol) but an over-rated PSU will be more robust and have a longer lifespan and will even run a little quieter.

And half-modular is really no different from full-modular (every motherboard uses the same main power connector) so I don't think it's really worth paying more $ or limiting your choices to full-modular unless custom sleeving/cabling considerations are important.

My picks from newegg.com - similar to yours in specs (1200W, 80Plus Gold, modular, etc), apparent quality, and price: LEPA G1200-MA ($150), SeaSonic x-1250 ($190), FSP Aurum Pro 1200 ($200), bequiet! DPP 10 ($200). Sale prices next week (or the week after that, etc) might offer better deals, if you aren't in a hurry to buy the PSU for your system.
