Multiple PCIe 5.0 NVMe M.2 SSD drives

ASUS ROG STRIX X870E-E GAMING WIFI7 R2

I have two Samsung 9100 Pro drives.

I have been lead to believe that I should only use the one "main" PCIe 5.0 x4 slot because using the other two halves the number of PCIe lanes available for the video card from 16 to 8 . . . and that would be bad.

Is this the standard for all newer motherboard designs? Unless I'm missing something, I've wasted my money buying the extra drive, and may as well have stuck with the older 2.5 inch SSDs.

Is that the case?

Hello ABNEGATION

You can use the M.2_1 slot as your boot drive.

You can use M.2_4 and M.2_5 slots which uses the Chipset lanes, your storage drive would run at PCIe 4.0 (Gen 4).
