Their conclusion is, there is not enough GPU power on these cards to make use of the 4GB of VRAM. Their feelings are, that in order for 4GB of VRAM to become useful at higher resolutions you would need at least three or four of them in SLI. They suggest that with a 680 you might only need three of them in SLI to make use of the extra VRAM and since the 770's are basically 680's. There's my point. To properly utilize the extra VRAM you need the GPU power to do so - because having the extra VRAM still doesn't enable you to turn up the extra eye candy because there is just not enough GPU power backing the cards to begin with. Which is why you will run out of GPU power way before VRAM. Basically, it's pretty simple, the 256-bit bus is not really a large enough bandwidth for 4GB of VRAM on the GK104 cards. See a card with 4GB of memory won't actually improve your frame rates over the regular 2GB models, this is because games mostly will use under 2GB VRAM. However, if you do exceed 2GB VRAM, then a 4GB card becomes a necessity because then the game will begin to crash, stutter, or run at around 3-6 FPS. What this review shows is that even at ridiculously high resolutions (5760x1200). You are still not going over 2GB of VRAM and basically, only when the GPU is fast enough, does more VRAM actually help out in games.
