Hello all, I have a quick question about memory.

I am wanting to know if Corsair Vengeance Pro 16GB (4x4) DDR3 2133 Mhz with a latency of 9-11-11-31 @ 1.65 volts, Will work on the Maximus Vi Hero?

The CPU should be able to handle that RAM and still have one hand free to cover its mouth as it yawns.

Seriously, the primary concern is the integrated memory controller (IMC) inside the processor. Haswell IMC's work great with the timing you quote and some much faster.

Indeed it's about the CPU... but it should work...

It'll work, but I wouldn't recommend Corsair memory. Overpriced mem.

I have been told DDR3-1866 CAS 9 is the memory type you get the most for your money and right now NewEgg has G.Skill Ripjaws X for $135. The same price as DDR3-1600, a bargain if you ask me.

The money you want to spend on that DDR3 2133 would be better spent on CPU and/or GPU. If you feel I'm in error, please ignore my post. 🙂

That memory is bright blue though. Bleh! You can get the 1866 Vengeance Pro with same timings for 10 bucks more and it's RED.

He's asking about a certain Corsair memory though. I wonder if he bought it already.

Yes, you're right. Red memory boosts speeds much better than Blue memory. What was I thinking! LOL

I'd rather have 2x8 and have room to upgrade later, if you'd ever want 32gb (RAM Drive)

Haswell Recommendations

For discrete GPU users, recommending any kit over another is a tough call. In light of daily workloads, a good DDR3-1866 C9 MHz kit will hit the curve on the right spot to remain cost effective. Users with a few extra dollars in their back pocket might look towards 2133 C9/2400 C10, which moves a little up the curve and has the potential should a game come out that is heavily memory dependent. Ultimately the same advice also applies to multi-GPU users as well as IGP: avoid 1600 MHz and below.

One relevant question to this is whether memory speed matters in the laptop space. It remains an untapped resource for memory manufacturers to pursue, mainly because it is an area where saving $5 here and there could mean the difference between a good and great priced product. But even when faced with $2000+ laptops, 1333 MHz C9 and 1600 C9-11 still reign supreme. I have been told that often XMP is not even an option on many models, meaning there are few opportunities for some pumped up SO-DIMM kits that have recently hit the market.

No i have not bought the memory yet, I am putting together a parts list that will have a read and black scheme.

I also have a list for a Razer green build, now its just deciding between them and finding a desk that I like. Speaking of desks
finding a desk is turning out to be the hardest part of putting together these list so far, lol.

Once I make up my mind on what I want, I will post my build list here on the forums!

P.s Thanks for the feedback guys and gals!
