Yup.
To reiterate what I said earlier, with Intel CPUs the impact of different memory speeds is minimal and definitely not noticeable unless the PCs used for heavy video and picture editing. AMD CPUs, on the other hand are more linked in performance to memory speeds. Frankly, I would spend money and time on the CPU, GPU and general overclocking.

Hello all,
I posted in another thread regarding a new build centered around the Ryzen 2700x but after more research, I have settled on the 8700K and Maximus X Formula
Wanted top run this parts list by you guys:
CPU: Core i7-8700K
RAM: G.Skill TridentZ RGB 32GB
MOBO: ASUS ROG MAXIMUS X FORMULA
GFX: GTX 980Ti for now (Re-Unisg my exisitng GPU until 1180 comes out)
Cooler: NZXT Kraken x62
Storage: Samsung 970EVo NVMe M.2 500GB (OS) + Samsung 970EVo NVMe M.2 1TB (Games)
PSU: Corsair AX1200i 1200 Watt (Re-using Old existing PSU)
OS: Windows 10 Home 64-bit
A few concerns:
1) Can you please recommend a 32GB kit from the G.Skill TridentZ RGB line? Should I get 2x16GB or 4x8GB, which is best?
2) Will the NZXT AIO Kraken x62 be sufficient for the 8700k and hitting 5GHz or should I go with x72 ?
3) I did not see the SAMSUNG 970 Evo PCIe NVMe M.2s in the QVL for the Maximus X Formula. Will they work?
Thank you!

Looks like we have a similar setup
8700K
Rog Maximus X Hero WiFi
GSkill RGB 16g 3200 16-18-18-18-32 ( too slow for me )
Evga 1080Ti iCX
Corsair AX860i PSU
W10 Pro
The X62 should be fine as I had the EVGA280 and ran Aida64Ex for 20 min @ 4.7 and never got over 70c but I had to return it as I could not mount it on top and my GPU was getting to hot as i had no front intake's. I got the X72 the other day ran aida64 again and dropped 5c-8c. I too have the same question about the M.2's as the 970 is not on the list but the 860evo is.
IMO just to be safe just pick a set thats on the QVL and a low CL like the 15. I got and email back form GSkill about the same quesion on speed on the memory.
" Between C14 and C16, the difference depends on the application and task. Lower latency can reduce overall processing time, but in actuality, unless you have two machines side by side or benchmark test, it depends on whether the user can notice a 10 or 15 second difference. In the end, it becomes a matter of whether you want the best of what is available. DDR4 is DDR4 and will still perform great either way.
Thank you

2x16GB versus all four dimms populated will put less stress on the CPU IMC thus allowing higher OC'ing potential.

Im definitely enjoying the breathing room with Intel and RAM selection. My first choice was going to be a RYZEN 2700X build and picking RAM sucked terribly.
