Looking for cooling advise.

Hello Hello,
I'm getting ready to order parts for a new machine
https://pcpartpicker.com/user/bobbagels/saved/yqpmGX
But wanted to ask a very general question

How much maintenance is a custom loop really?

I have never done a custom loop, always used AIO's or air ( last air cooling was 2600K, she still idles at 30c and 60c under full load. OCed to 4.5 ). 😛
I have been reading and watching videos and am sure I could give it a go.
But I ask how much maintenance it would be because I dont usually have alot of time to break things down and rebuild constantly. ( im a contractor and always busy, I Like to play at nights & weekends) When I need the machine I need it, know what I mean?

Appreciate any insight and opinions.

Hi bobbagels

Really the only maintenance is changing out the coolant and cleaning dust out of your rad and fans, I use koolance coolant as they recommend to change it every 2-3 years. Most everyone else says to change theirs every year.

They have it in different colors.

Thx Nate, Im so tempted to go custom loop , I want to order everything this weekend coming up.
Since we last spoke (in a different thread) I switched over from the hero to the Code.

I just thought it was the better choice for overclocking.

I am unsure of the memory I picked out. I'm pretty sure it is on the QVL list.
But what is the better choice with this board, 2 sticks of 16Gb each or or 4 at 8Gb each ?

The Trident Z is a great choice, 2 x 16GB will put less strain on the cpu's IMC and is probably what I'd go with.

Nice choice again on the Maximus IX Code, it's a rock solid motherboard and has my 7700k overclocked to 5.3GHz ! If you want to save alot of cash you could delid your 7700k and stick with the kraken cooler, it will void your warranty with Intel though.

How comfortable would you feel about delidding ? You will get better results if you delid and use the Kraken vs not delidding and a custom loop. To delid will only cost about $70.00

You can get 1 gram of the kryonaut at performance pc's for $5.95 but I'm not sure how that would translate into the shipping cost.

do all water cooling systems require maintenance

FWIW, I generally clean (wash and dust) my computer guts about once or twice a year ... or anytime I've got the chassis open (for hardware upgrades, lol) and I happen to notice the inside is starting to get filthy. I rarely drain, flush, and refill the loops - just top off the reservoirs with more coolant (Midel 7131 all the way!). Always check for leaks and tighten/loosen/fix anything which looks iffy, always watch for leaks for a little while afterwards. I've only had to fully replace coolant a few times over many years with many rigs, typically because the liquid-cooled hardware (or the cooling system itself) was being upgraded/reconfigured. I've never seen an AIO/CLC leak, never confirmed the few claims I've heard from people about theirs leaking (largely because they're just complainers and if the leaks did in fact occur then they were most likely the result of user stupidity).

Hi Korth !

I had to look up your coolant the Midel 7131, it seems it's an oil for cooling transformers ?

I never heard of it. 🙂
