Did you mean:

just another bottle neck ?

Today I pre-ordered an i7 4790K to go in the sig system. The ram is running @ 1866 8-9-9-24. I'm guessing there's little I can do, short of OCing that will improve the system, correct? I don't OC so faster ram would require another MB which would be past the point of diminishing return.

Heini, I really don't see any bottlenecks in the components you assembled, but moving from the i7-4790 to the 4790K, I think adding even a mild auto-OC through the UEFI BIOS or AI Suite 3 would be advantageous. I didn't realize that Sabertooth MB was limited to 1866MHz on the ram, but you purchased a set with some nice CL specs, same as mine.

My i7-4790K is sitting at the FedEx depot in Memphis and just shipped today. Looking forward to getting it by week's end. Let me know how you like yours.
i7-4790K, Z97-WS, EVGA GTX 780Ti S.C., 16GB G.Skill Trident-X 1866MHz CL8, CM Nepton 140XL, EVGA SuperNova 1000 G2, Samsung 840 EVO 500GB SSD, WD Caviar Black 2TB, Win 8.1(x64), Asus PB-278Q (2560x1440p), Phanteks Enthoo Pro. Tripp-Lite LC1200 AVR. Build Images.

Bored & looking for the next project ... 🙂

I didn't expect a big performance jump going from a 4790 to the 4790K but I'm pleasantly surprised. Not a big jump but better than expected. I'm running it under the factory cooler and temps are in the normal range but I'll add a better air cooler later. Hope you like your's as much as I do!

Good to hear it worked out so well. Down the road, when my build is put together, we should compare temps once you add the new cooler. My 4790K was just delivered by FedEx a few minutes ago. It's sitting next to me on my desk. I think you made a good choice. Think about adding even a slight OC to the system. I think you'll be please with the performance.

Yeah, no bottleneck there to speak of...4790K at stock 4.4GHz or if you can get a bit more out of it will handle SLI 780s with aplomb. RAM frequency makes next to no odds in gaming...only shows differences in benchmarks and 1866 at CAS 8 is pretty quick...almost the same as 2133 CAS9 or 2400 CAS10

On the Sabertooth you can OC your ram to what ever your CPU IMC can handle.
To help us help you - please provide as much information about your system and the problem as possible.

Yeh, Ive read the Sabertooths (or is it Saberteeth, LOL) are great for OCing but I'm good where I am for now. If I ever need an OC I'll buy one cause I'm too old and lazy to do my own.

Hit 90C (benching) so I pulled a GPU till I can decide which cooler to get. With a 200mm fan it the top I need a lowish profile cooler unless I mod the case and put the 200 on the outside of the case.

Hitting 90C with the stock heatsink is a common problem. With a kickass setup like yours, you should definately invest in an aftermarket heatsink.

Can anyone give me some idea of what a safe temp range would be for the 4790K, regardless of cooling solution? What should we aim for?
