i5-3570K OCed to 4.5Ghz Temps

Greetings all. My first post on these forums and I am wondering if anyone could help me out figuring out CPU temps on my newly built PC. You can see my setup on my signature, but further details are as follows:

a) The HAF-X case has ALL fans installed. The rear fan I replaced with a Scythe pushing out 110cfm and I added another 120mm fan (another Scythe pushing in 110cfm) into the unused drive bays blowing across the RAM to the CPU. The VGA fan duct is installed with an 80mm Delta blowing over 190cfm (but software controlled).

b) I am using MX-4 thermal paste and I used the line method.

c) Ambient temperatures in my house average 24C-26C.

I have ran Prime95 successfully for over 12 hours and Intel Burn for more than 20 passes with no crashes or other issues (I must have one hell of a chip given that I'm running it at VCORE v1.150 and CPU PLL at v1.520. My full load temps on Prime95 top out at 74C for cores 1 and 2 and 64C for cores 0 and 3 (idle temps cores 0 and 3 are 30C-35C and cores 1 and 3 are 35-39C). Are these acceptable temperatures given the low voltage I am using? Could they be lower based on my current air cooling setup (Hyper 212 EVO)? Maybe a different method of thermal paste application could help more? Or am I just looking too much into this?

Thank you to all that reply!

Your temperatures are well within safe limits. The disparity between cores is too high. I've seen maybe 3C to 5C difference between them but never 10C. What method did you use to apply the thermal paste?

Well, I would try reseating the CPU cooler... do not use too much TIM, but pay attention to evenly tighten the cooler's screws in all four corners (do it in a cross pattern)...

About the application method - I'm always using the pea size method on the middle...

For 12 hours of prime those temps are fine! And it is not unheard of, by any means, to have 10 c difference between cores.

Of course, you could try to remount your cooler and make sure you use very even pressure tightening it down...or change thermal paste to something like PK-1 ,which is a good performer in cases of not ideal contact between cooler and IHS....but you may find little or no change and it's not a problem.

Your overall temps are fine, but I would also suggest reseating the cooler (only because of the big difference reported between cores).

I've reseated the HS 5 times already, even used different paste application methods (line and dot). Maybe the CPU's surface is not completely flat? On "regular" gaming use (Battlefield 3) temperatures on the middle cores (1 and 2) never break 60F and the other cores (0 and 3) stay in the high 40s or low 50s.

No, usually the IHS is not completely flat... - but don't worry, those temps are fine!

Your system is running within spec and well within the "good" range of temps.

Not uncommon to see 12'C difference between cores.
