I am building a new pc and i have some questions

Gaming Desktop
My current rig:
case: thermaltake level 10 gt
motherboard: asus rampage iv extream
cpu: intel core i7 3930k
gpu: nvidia gtx 480
psu: crosair gs800
memory: Corsair Vengeance 2x8GB DDR3 1600MHz
cooling: crosair h80

What improvements should i make?
Should i wait and take maximus v or buy the rampage iv?
Can i save money by buying the intel core i7 3820 or there is a big diference in quad core and six core is alot better?
Should i buy a better psu with more power or maybe lower?
Maybe another memory ? 4x4gb or 2x8gb ?
...

*i will extreamly overclock
*this is the first time i am building a pc on my own so i want to be sure that is good and that i wont make any mistakes

Definitely look at something in the 600 series for a graphics card and if its on your Extreme OC list you will want to look at aftermarket cooling for it as well. For RAM I side with the others on this one, although I can't comment on the G.Skill Corsair Dominator GT is designed to OC and with some extra cooling you can add this to your Extreme OC list as well. For power I would consider a larger PSU if you are going to overclock everything. And don't be stingey on cooling, when OCing cooling is the be all end all so do your research well and ask these guys as I know plenty of them have gone down this path.

HiViz everything I have read points to the opposite in that X79 is the way to go for gaming if you know better then by all means explain it I will be interested to know since I am looking to go back to an intel build in the near future. Also if Intel keep up on their word we will see the new X79 CPU's (As Intel are sticking with X79 for their gaming/enthusiast market) before the end of the year so it may be worth waiting a while if you can.

Finally as an additional comment on your storage an SSD will go well in your setup but another option for you is WD Caviar Black. These will give you better performance and speed than your standard drive but without loss of storage space, they come in 500gb 1tb and 2tb sizes and I can definitely recommend them as I run 2 inside my PC.

Love to hear how many games are optimised for more than 4 cores. 🙂
Or even benefit from having 4 cores or more. Not that many that I can list.

Cost v Benefit is my yardstick.

I can list a few but I'm not an average computer user 🙂 I'm not even gaming and using 4gig of ram and 2 cores. Still you raise a good point, I am going to wait until next year before I make any updates for my build I want to see the new AMD Technology up against the new Socket 2011 supposedly coming out towards the end of the year

There is also the idea to get a 6 core cpu and shut down 2 cores, less heat when OC'ing and less voltage needed, and as stated by HiViz, no games as yet take advantage of more than 4 cores (most only need 2 cores)
