How many fan per header for Maximus IX

Hello All

I have read a bit about it and cant find a good answer.

I have a Asus ROG Maximus IX formula
I have 8 corsair AF120 led fans
4 for each side of my custom deskPC.

Can I plug 4 together to 1 case fan header? and the for other 4 to an other case fan header?
I dont want to had a fan hub inside the deskPC for aesthetic.

Or should I connect them directly to the power supply?

Thanks

each fan header is rated for 1 amp except the high amp header (check your owners manual), do not connect more than they are rated for or you will at minimum burn out the header, worse case board. fans use more current during startup than during operation so allow some headroom, personally I never connect more than 2 fans per header, 1 fan per header preferred a small fan controller that connect to a fan header for control and the power supply for power is best, when you connect multiple fans to one header you may loose some control of fan speed

Yea I knew about the 1 amp per header but some people seam to say 4 fan is no problem per header. I wanted to confirm. Corsair AF120 led are 0.4amp, so 4 is 1.2 amps, too much.

So looking into solution, cause I wish I dont have to install 2 more fan hub, I have stumble across some cable spliter with molex connector. They seem to implied that you will be able to control the fan speed with it. How could it be? I tough modulation of power (12v-7v-5v-3v) to control fan speed was coming from the motherboard header. But if the cable spliter power come from the power supply, how can the motherboard modulate it? Or does the modulation is control at the fan ends?

Thanks

You didn't read Menthols response. I think the most important take away is that Fans have 2 ratings. Amp rating and startup Amp rating. For instance a fan could have a .2a rating but could use .6a when powering up, not good when 2 or more fans are connected! You might be ok but would you want to ruin your motherboard cause of a stupid burnt fan header? I wouldnt.
I use 2 swiftech PWM sata fan hubs (one for each rad), they are small and can support up to 8 fans and take power from the psu. Best $10 investments I ever made!

I'm sure the 3A header could support 3 fans no problem

Btw the swiftech fan hubs connect to the back of the case so they are not visible
