hero z790

So I was looking at getting a hero z790 or a dark hero motherboard and as everyone knows it comes with the nvme card that you slot into the bottom slot, will that take away any performance from the GPU? I’m asking because it can run gen 5 nvmes and when you put any nvme in the first nvme slot it takes away from the GPU, so I didn’t know if that also applies here

Hi @Db07 I am using the Z790 DARK HERO board. It did not come with any additional card. Only Z790 HERO comes with the Hyper M.2 Card that you are talking about. Yes, this card will take away the PCIe lanes from your GPU. Also this card will only give you 1 PCIe GEN 5 drive when installed in the 2nd long slot (PCIEX16(G5)_2). All this information is available in the board's manual. I highly recommend you read them to understand the capabilities of these two boards.

I have created my build 7-8 months ago and selected Z790 DARK HERO as it is the updated version of Z790 HERO board.

Creating a new build today, I would also consider the Z890 boards which have come out now that newer Intel Arrow Lake CPUs are starting to release.

I hope this information helps you decide. Good luck for your new build. If you need further help, please share what are trying to build and how you are planning on using your computer to get further advice.
