Help with ram for ASUS ROG Strix X870E-E Gaming wifi

Im pairing this with an amd 9950x. I need to run as much system ram as possible and im not worried about overclocking or getting more than 5200 to 5600. Anyone have 128gb 2x64 working? And if so, what brand/model and specs of ram? I've seen posts about 4x32 but being dual channel, im not sure how well thats working out?

Anyway, thanks so much for any help

Cheers!

Hello Kngpnn

I came across a G.Skill Trident Z5 Neo 128GB (2 x 64GB) memory kit.

Thanks! Question: these are obviously not on the mobo qvl but on GSkill site theyre listed for this mobo. Any thoughts on that? Did GSKILL test it so they could list it that way? Any idea?

Thanks so much for your time

Hi @Kngpnn

Looking at the motherboard QVL, no kits have been validated in that density. However, at JEDEC (no EXPO/DOCP), this shouldn't be an issue. Check other vendor QVLs for validated kits, however, that density will require a reasonable CPU above 5800MT.

AM5 CPUs (including the 9950X) are always dual channel, that’s built into the memory controller, it doesn’t change with how many DIMMs you install. The difference between 2x64GB and 4x32GB is just how you populate those two channels. With 2x64GB, you’re running one DIMM per channel (1DPC), which is easier on the memory controller and often more stable at JEDEC 5200–5600. With 4x32GB, you’re running two DIMMs per channel (2DPC), which can limit frequency and stability. So if you want 128GB and aren’t chasing overclocked speeds, 2x64GB is usually the cleaner option.

Thanks!! I may try the GSKILL!

I just got this RAM for the 870E-E: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0FH5VJK18?tag=pcpapi-20&linkCode=ogi&th=1

64x2 6000MTs CL32, it has been working fine so far, task manager says it's at 128gb running at the full 6000MTs. Only thing is that it takes a few minutes to run the memory check every time my system boots up. I'm hoping that another BIOS update or 2 will resolve the issue, but so far that's my only complaint!

If your memory is stable, enable Memory Context Restore. This basically bypasses memory training and should give you a faster boot.

In the bios, Ai Tweaker page, scroll down to Dram Timing Control and click it. Scroll down to Memory Context Restore and set it to Enabled.

Hit F10 and Enter to save and exit.

That sounds perfect, thanks so much for the advice! And that won't make it unstable or anything?

If you're stable it will be fine.

You can check Task Manager on the Startup apps tab for your boot time.

That's fantastic, I'll check that tonight and post my results! Quick question while I've got you here, if I were to try to get the timings slightly improved, do you think I'd have better luck overclocking the RAM from 6000MTs to 6400MTs, or trying to lower the timing from CL32 to CL30? Or do you think the difference would be noticeable/worth the trouble at all?
