Hardware failure - which one?

Hi Everyone

My PC went down while running Deus Ex Mankind divided, and didn't turn on after that. I would like to know what went wrong so that I can act accordingly by buying a new component to replace the faulty one or activate warranty if possible.

My computer specs

CPU : Intel Core i7 6700k
MOBO : Asus Maximus 8 Gene
RAM : Corsair Vengeance LPX 2*8GB 3000Mz
GPU : EVGA GTX 980 Ti Superclocked+ ACX 2.0+
PSU : BeQuiet! Dark Power Pro 11 1000W
Screen : Acer XB270HU

GPU power comes from two PSU connectors, one 6 pin and one 8 pin connectors. The screen is connected to the GPU.

If both PSU power connectors are connected to the GPU, the PC doesn't start at all. Not any sign of activity on the MOBO apart from the standby leds (start, reset, etc).

If I remove the 6 pin connector from the GPU and keep the 8 pin connected the PC doesn't start at all, like before.

If I remove the 8 pin connector from the GPU and keep the 6 pin connected the pc boots and the mobo white led starts flashing (meaning “If an error is found, the corresponding LED flashes until the problem is solved”) and PC activity hangs at the code 62 (meaning “Installation of the PCH Runtime Services”). Screen shows “Please power down and connect the PCIe power cable(s) for this graphics card.”

If I remove both connectors the pc also boots and the mobo lights the white led and hangs at the code 62 like before.

I have tested different cables and with the PSU PCIe different modular plug-outs.

If I remove the GPU from the MOBO and connect the screen to the MOBO onboard plug, PC boots and runs normally until UEFI BIOS.

Thank you very much

Sounds like you've gone some way to answer your own question. I would:

1. Try a different modular cable that came with the PSU for the 8 pin power to GPU.

2. Try a different PSU if possible.

3. Try a different GPU if possible.

Hi fleenots*
I have had to Rma 3 Bequiet dark power pro 11 psu’s In the last two years, 4th one packed up about four months ago, I just abandoned it ( cost £75.00 each time to send it back to Germany) swapped to Corsair and no problems.
So from that, I would say check psu ( you can do this with the paper clip test as it’s referred to on google) and cables for damage.
Be quiet swapped there manufacturer about three years ago and seemed to lose quality in the deal.*
